I've been a BIG fan of Far Cry 2, and was pretty excited to see what would happen with the third iteration.

This game starts out very strangely. You are IMMEDIATELY confronted with a really douchey set of main characters, and a really charming set of ancillary ones. The NPCs that guide you along are very colourful and interesting, but are ultimately wasted. They are all presented in a really interesting manner that leaves you thinking about their motivations and if they are crazy (or maybe your character is crazy or is hallucinating). Anyways, story-wise this game is just flat and terrible and really expects you to be excited about things that just had me rolling my eyes.

Now you want to talk about the gameplay? Because I would. This game is an extremely effective and empowering murder simulator. You kill lots of dudes and aside from some pretty annoying auto-aiming quirks on the 360, this game feels pretty great to play. You start out really lacking a lot of tools that you gain through a skill tree and become a walking murder machine when it is all rolled out. I feel like the game wants you to sneak around, since you are rolling into enemy encampments all alone and you are given a lot of very powerful stealth killing techniques that reward you with lots of XP. Maybe that's just how I leaned in this game and Far Cry 2, but it felt like I was being pushed in that direction.

Anyways, this game is just one big open world game that has a linear story placed inside it. You are given lots of activities to keep you busy (hunting, exploration and capturing bases are all necessary and rewarding to your character progress), so it's not a game you will blaze through in two sittings.

I recommend this to anyone who has ever wanted a game that feels like you are Ice T in Surviving the Game.

Also! I hear this game is pretty baller on PC, but I played it on the 360 to a pretty ridiculously low framerate (sub 30 ALL THE TIME).

I'm buying the shit out of this next time it goes on sale. I managed to put it off when it went on sale during the Steam Winter Sale for $36 but I don't think I can do that again.

I'm going to give it a go this week. I've heard nothing but good thing about this game so far so i'm looking forward to it.

I have not played 1 or 2, but there is no cohesiveness (i've heard) between the games so you can pick this right up and play.

Something that isn't a good thing about the game: the story missions are terribly made and I believe the ratio of shitty missions to fun ones is like three to one.

This is a case of a game I want to try, but knowing that there is a far superior-performing PC version (that I can't run) keeps me from picking it up on Xbox because I'll always be thinking, "this could be better".

I had never played any of these types of games on a console before, but i finally did get to try Oblivion on a friends Xbox and... yikes. The M&K of a computer is just far superior for the Fallout, Skyrim, and i'm guessing Far Cry type games. I dont know how some of you guys do it. Stick look vs mouse look is just too much a difference for me.

This basically sums up why I'll probably never buy a console ever again.

I'll admit that PC is probably a superior experience in terms of controls. But, once you get used to the dual stick controls, they work out just fine.

I haven't exactly spent 3 hours on stick controls and given up - the posts were about our preferences based on dozens/hundreds of hours, not stick controls being wrong for everyone.

Right now, the PC is the best choice out of all the gaming platforms. The long console cycle this time around has really shown how old the hardware is that is powering the consoles. Not only are the PC versions superior when mixed with the correct hardware, but the beauty that is steam makes the purchase and patching process extremely painless. Remember a time when one needed to go to either the developer's website or places like fileplanet to dig up either full or update patch files? Relying on extremely slow servers and no in game notification of when patches were available. The PC experience (I think) has benefited greatly by the inclusion of patches and PC-ish aspects of this last console generation (OS updates, game patches, and whatnot were streamlined on consoles and this has translated to steam doing a similar process).

These advantages aside, I still will be a console gamer forever, I think. I enjoy the safety of the closed system for its ease of use. I don't have to update my drivers or fbe the victim of some tiny minority of hardware or software issues of my system conflicting with a game. I find the PC system to be too expensive to jump into to get the fidelity needed to outmatch consoles (I'd rather pay $300 for a console than however much a PC would cost that would outmatch it). I enjoy sitting on the couch with a controller (I play Borderlands 2 on PC with a controller on my couch). If I am ever lucky enough to need to update my ageing computer at the tail end of the next console hardware cycle, I will no doubt be pleased with the higher graphic fidelity that it would afford, but for now I will just wait patiently for the new set of consoles to come out... And maybe pick up one of those Wii Us I've been hearing so little about lately.

Also, why aren't you super jacked about being a murdering psychopath is Far Cry 3?

I actually still don't own it yet.. I've waited this long - I'm not spending full price on it. At this point it's the principle of the matter rather than my need to save $15. I may have to wait until the spring break sale Steam is probably going to have.

On sale today on Steam for $30 I finally picked it up

Edit: This game is really good... Dream game is an amalgamation of this and Dishonored.
