In related news, InXile (i.e. home for some of the Interplay devs who made the original Fallout games) has
expressed hopes for completing their Van Buren project. Meaning a Fallout 3 that isn't a first person shooter could actually become a reality. Seeing as how InXile still hasn't released Torment: Tides of Numesomething and just started a Kickstarter for a new Bard's Tale game... at best Van Buren would probably be 2019.
Chris Avellone who had his hands in the Fallout/Planescape Torment pies has also recently announced that he's left Obsidian (where he had his hand in New Vegas, the story, not the bugs). Fingers crossed they're related. People have expressed desire that they hope Avellone left to work on Fallout 4, but fuck that noise - I want him on Van Buren, not eaten up by Bethesda. They make good games and all, but Fallout 4 is probably too far along to hire him for writing/creative director at this point.
Obsidian does
a lot of weird shit. That link is to a free to play tank game they're working on. This is a game studio known best for fucking KOTOR 2, New Vegas, the South Park game, and Alpha Protocol. What the flying fuck are they doing making a F2P game let alone one with tanks? Just bizarre stuff. I can see how Avellone's talent as a creative director could have him on the outs with a company that has shifted its focus to F2P games and a weird mobile/tablet card game that I hadn't heard anything about until I just wiki'd Obsidian Entertainment.
In any case, it's a good week to be a Fallout fan.
