Well, now that the site's back I guess it'd be worth starting posting again. I'm a fan of following stuff that barely nobody reads, sometimes in the 'too niche to be pirated' category. Though outside of Spy X Family I don't follow anything mainstream that's just uncontroversially good.
The Elusive Samurai
We'll start with the bad. This is one of those things you should tell your friends about it because you can't be the only guy suffering. The premise is you got this guy that's like Sena from Eyeshield 21 in the Japanese feudal war era. He's super fast but has no strength and like Sena he cleaves guys in half or whatever using his super speed techniques while we're constantly reminded that this guy can barely lift 10 lbs. Oh and he gets turned on while running away. So what's redeeming about this? Well, it's unintentionally one of the most hilarious thing whenever it tries to do some Saving Private war melodrama and you can see the comments everyone's just laughing at how dumb the story is and usually people don't even remember who died while the story makes a big scene trying to pretend it's actually serious about war and loyalty and betrayal and stuff.
Well, to be fair, it actually does handle the character deaths pretty well if you can get past the idea of this skinny guy with no alleged superpowers doing grapple moves on guys with five times his strength and succeeding while horny. I got the feeling his super power probably comes from him being horny except it specifically says this is not the case.
Volundio - Divergent Sword Saga
Quasi sequel to Helck. Cleo the mercenary joins a girl named Kohaku in a world dominated by the Divergent Sword, which are these swords that give you power. And if you read Helck before, you should know that Kohaku is actually Lady White Tiger of the Demon Empire (Kohaku is written as 'white tiger king' in reverse in both Chinese and Japanese), which is like having Saitama on your team. The problem with the Helck series is that this trick only works once. The author does a good job convincing that the powerhouses of the worlds aren't really that powerful, that they can be brought down with treachery and tactics. And then you found out that the Demon Lords/Ladies are indeed as cosmically powerful as they appear. Heck, currently we're told there's this loyal servant of Lady White Tiger looking for her, and again from Helck you should know this guy is Kernos' father, and Kernos is a guy who soloed a mountain sized battle station and it specifically says he's like nothing compared to his father. It'd be like if you're teaming up with an old guy who said he's got this guy wearing a black helmet named Darth Vader who may be of some help.
Mind you, the story telling is still top notch, but there's really no sense of urgency. In theory there's an imminent disaster that will wipe out the Demon Empire and Cleo along holds the power to stop the fate that Lady White Tiger has foreseen. In reality it's hard to take things seriously when Lady White Tiger at <20% of her power can effortlessly defeat any alleged threat the story has to offer. To be fair none of those are things the Demon Empire would actually care about. It's obviously something far greater but the power level is just so detached from reality. Like Lady Vamario said, 'strength in numbers' means 100000 heroes or equivalent amount of fantasy units. That's like the minimum number you need to overwhelm a Demon Lord/Lady, so it's kind of hard to take seriously when you've Lady White Tiger fighting an army of 50000 ordinary man that she can kill instantly with telekinesis and the only reason why it's a suspense because like all high level demons, Lady White Tiger prefers to avoid killing inferior species unless there's a need to.
Versus
13 different universes facing imminent extinction managed to merge together through some multiversal event, and now we get to find out if demons can defeat terminators. In theory, the humans of these worlds are supposed to band together and win, except it turns out banding 13 groups of insects is still pretty useless. So instead humans just hide somewhere while aliens, demons, robots, Godzilla, God, parasite, giants, and a bunch of more threats fight it out. And since it's bad guys fighting themselves that means it's actually pretty suspenseful because you have no idea if demon or aliens are supposed to win against each other. Only concern right now is currently combat seems to be going into the 'strongest guy of each species determines the winner', because if you go by that then either Godzilla or God has to win in the end. But I think we'll soon see how races with numbers can overcome a singular powerful individual since God is about to make his appearance, and presumably the point isn't that God is invincible and every other universe's invaders can just pack up and go home now.
Versus has a 'place your bets' deal in the community whenever two (or more) invaders meet each other and picking the winner. Well so far the fights have been pretty lopsided, because it's things like a giants scouting force attacked a Neo Human city (Neo Human decisive victory), or a demon army running into 4 Saiyans, er, Madarans walking out of their battle pods. But I think once the invaders all get properly introduced it'd be harder to tell who's going to win.
