  • Oh, man! Did any of you guys see this? Jon Stewart goes on Crossfire and essentially tells them their show is bullshit.

  • Somehow, we still tolerate each other. Eventually this will be the only forum left.

<div style='font: ; text-align: left; '>Although like he said, the reason he didn't "hold my feet to the fire" when I was on his show was because it's a comedy show and shouldn't be held to the same standards as actual news programs.</div>

It's a comedy show, not a news show, and everybody knows it. The sad state of the media is that his show is more accurate.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '><blockquote>QUESTION: Renee (ph) from Texas. Why do you think it's hard or difficult or impossible for politicians to answer a straight, simple question?

STEWART: I don't think it's hard. I just think that nobody holds their feet to the fire to do it. So they don't have to. They get to come on shows that don't...

BEGALA: They're too easy on them.

CARLSON: Yes. Ask them how you hold...

STEWART: Not easy on them...

(CROSSTALK)

BEGALA: ... saying we were too hard on people and too (INAUDIBLE).

(CROSSTALK)

STEWART: I think you're - yeah.</blockquote>That last "yeah" was him giving up because they ran out of time. He didn't get the chance to finish the answer - which is exactly the type of stuff he was talking about.</div>

<div style='font: 11pt Arial; text-align: left; '>No one on the Daily Show is a "real" journalist though. I think it would be more dishonest for them to actually claim journalistic authority for what they say and do than as not.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>It would actually be no less honest than the folk over at CNN. Even though it is true, the show is comedy, and more accurate than the actual news.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt Tahoma; text-align: left; '>I agree that it is a comedy late night show, much like The Tonight Show or something that also has politicians on, but to have Stewart talk trash about people not asking hard questions when he had the most golden opportunity to do shows that he is an asshole. You dont see Leno accusing journalists.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt Tahoma; text-align: left; '>It just isnt fair for Stewart to be able to hide behind his "i'm a comedian" screen while simultaneously pointing fingers when he could have stepped up and practice what he was preaching. <div style='font: 12pt Arial; text-align: left; '>I agree.... to an extent. He seems like he's trying to have his cake and eat it too. I'm just glad to hear him say a lot of the things that he's saying about political shows not being helpful to the political process and comparing them to pro-wrestling... It's about time somebody said it.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>Stewart is in a position where he can accept that responsibility if he wants (which I don't know if he's realized) - and in some cases, he actually has. His discussions with politicians and authors are generally informative. That responsibility, however, is implied in actual news shows.</div>

Watch if for yourself, and then compare it to what a Crossfire type interview would have been like. I also submit the interviews with Bill Clinton, Seymour Hersh, Harry Bonilla, Wolf Blitzer and Robert Reich as interviews with substance - maybe more so than a show like Crossfire.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt Tahoma; text-align: left; '>It was a good interview, certainly more substance than most journalists would be able to do, but is that what he considers 'holding their feet to the fire'?</div>

<div style='font: 14pt "Sans Serif"; text-align: justify; padding: 0% 15% 0% 15%; '>Fair? You mean the Daily Show should be doing CNN's job? That doesn't make much sense. On the other hand, while I found the interview hillarious, it was a little too altruistic for my tastes. Of course Crossfire is theatre. CNN exists for ratings...</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Flip, get over yourself, it's a comedy show, on the comedy Network, meant to be entertaining; and it is entertaining. It is not CNN headline news or whatever you watch. Though CNN is practically comedy (In the renaisance time frame definition of it), and it shouldn't be.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt Tahoma; text-align: left; '>Being on a comedy show, Stewart is in the perfect position to throw these things out there and quickly duck for cover behind his show and network when there is a negative respose. <div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>He doesn't claim to be a good journalist. I'm not a journalist either, but I will certainly call CNN one of the worst quality mainstream news networks in the world; though we don't get Fox news here for some reason, and I have heard it's way worse.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt Tahoma; text-align: left; '>All i'm saying is if that Stewart REALLY cared about the issue (which he obviously does, since he felt the need to call CNN out on it on one of their own shows) then he had a great opportunity to take it upon himsef and do a great interviewand show everyone up. The Daily Show can get serious sometimes if it wants, the opportunity was there, he didnt grab it, instead flames everyone else, then ducks for cover because his show is after puppets. Dont you think he has enough pull on that show to do a serious interview if he wanted to?

*sigh* we're going full circle here, just forget about it.</div>
