<div style='font: 10pt Tahoma; text-align: left; '>Any special software needed? I havent tried it yet, but i do have a DVD ROM and would like to put a few things from a DVD on the comp. Thanks.</div>
<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>I've never done it, and I haven't given it too much thought before, but you probably want software that will convert a DVD to an mpeg, or some other format. I did a google search for "convert dvd to mpeg" and found a bunch of sites.</div>
<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>You just wanna rip it....what you wanna rip it as depends on space available and what prog you would use to view it.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>There is a lot of copy programs, and from what I know, you need a straight rip. You can also decide whether you want just the video file only, or if you want all the menus, extras, chapters, etc. Like Kali said, depends on the room</div>
<div style='font: 10pt Tahoma; text-align: left; '>Well, i just want a segment of one dvd, and it isnt worth buying a prog for something like this since i wont be doing it all the time. I search a little and nothing is free. Oh well.</div>
<div style='font: bold 9pt ; text-align: left; '>I use DVDShrink 3.1. It's really nice. At least I like it and I know others who do.
It lets you cut out the menus, the extras, whatever you want. You can cut up the actual movie into pieces too.
And if it's a large movie, you can shrink the file size by reducing quality if that's needed.
You can burn the files you are given by DVDShrink directly to a DVD using Nero.
You can also use the files and convert them to an AVI and then to an MPEG if you want.</div>
On the latter (menus and all), I would recommend the Matroska Video standard.</div>
