  • Well, after shelving my PSX for a couple of months, it no longer works (discs don't spin). Go Sony! A quality machine that was........

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

<div style='font: 10pt "arial narrow"; text-align: left; padding: 0% 5% 0% 5%; '>Not. I was, however, surprised it lasted a whole five years with only skipping and occasional stopping, after hearing others' stories of their PSXs lasting two-three years.

Now, I don't necessarily NEED a PS1 now that I have a PS2, but I always liked using my Pro Action Replay card for Gameshark codes and *cough*burnedgames*cough*. Question: Does the PSOne (the new one) have the same I/O port for Gamesharks and such? I'd go out and check on this by myself but y'know... lazy.</div>

<div style='font: 11pt ; text-align: left; '>Oh come on.....it's no secret that Sony's little game machine is um......bah I'm not getting into it.....As for the port, Sony took the I/O port out of the newer versions of the PSX, so I doubt the PS1 has that port either.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt Arial; text-align: left; '>Actually there's a Pro Action Replay that allows you to play burned PSX games and use Gameshark codes. My friend saw it in Hong Kong, so it's only a matter of time before it gets here.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt Arial; text-align: left; '>My older american and japanese PSX's have skipping problems, even though i took great care of em (so i agree on the "poorly built" thing). They are the only systems (out of the like 30+ I've got) that ever gave problems.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt Baskerville; text-align: left; '><i>...is about 6 years old. It skips and heats up real fast but it still runs thankfully (my only modded one). I bought a second one about 2 years ago and it still runs perfectly and gets the most use. The later models were much more sturdy, and the one I got still as an I/O port for my GamesharkGameshark.

If you can find one of the ones like mine, which was the first to come with the Dual Shock controller packed in, it'd be worth getting used. They are made much better and the CD lens rails are moved away from the CPU so you don't have to worry about the rails warping from the heat, which is what caused the skipping in early models. Or you can just get a PSOne if the GameShark is your only concern. They got around that I/O port problem real quick...it'll just cost you the price of a new CD GamesharkGameshark.

All this is yet another reminder of why I'm waiting for at least a few generations of PS2's to be made before buying. They're already making one that uses emulation instead of having the PSX processor inside for playing PSX games. This will likely make the PSX games look much better and take better advantage of the faster CD player...and they don't have the problems of a Bleem where they have to work backwards, it's their own code they're emulating. After a generation of those are out and stable, I'll lay my money down and stop taking advantage of the kindness of strangers with PS2's...</i></div>

<div style='font: 12pt Baskerville; text-align: left; '>...<i>something is seriously fucking wrong with it. If you preview with the Spellcheck, all the words that come up as mis-spelled will have the duplication bug when you post. If you use the spellchecker to correct or add a word, when you post that word will be duped, with the first one having a + in front of it. For example, I tried to add "Castlevania" to the spellchecker, but when I previewed again I got "+CastlevaniaCastlevania". Something is wrong with the way it replaces the misspelled words, or if you don't replace it it freaks out and dupes the word, like it wants to point it out even more. I do not get it, but it needs to be fixed. If people want to use the spellchecker I suggest using it once, then preview without it and delete all the dupes that pop up, then post. Otherwise you get a big mess. My post would have been even worse if I hadn't cleaned it up...I just missed the Gameshark dupe.</i></div>
