  • I downloaded the FF11 trailer... eh. Doesn't do much for me. The people all look like they're from a PC RPG, they don't look FF at all.

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

<div style='font: 12pt Arial; text-align: left; '>Yah, I agree totally. Unless they plan to make all the FF games "online" ones from now on, which they said they don't (FFXII is supposed to be offline).</div>

<div style='font: 10pt "arial narrow"; text-align: left; padding: 0% 5% 0% 5%; '>I disagree when it comes to Final Fantasy. FF7 looked and felt quite different from FF6 (aside from including things like moogles and chocobos), and FF8 looked and felt quite different from FF7.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Is that it's probably going to be the same purists who bitched about FF7 not being a carbon copy of four and six who are going to bitch about the new FF not being a carbon copy of seven eight or nine. :)</div>

<div style='font: 10pt Verdana, Tahoma; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>The characters in FF8 (or FF10, from what I've seen) are realistic looking, but they still have a Final Fantasy feel. The people I saw just plain didn't. Final Fantasy has never had characters that looked quite so... classicaly medevil as those in that movie.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt Verdana, Tahoma; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>They're not exactly alike, but you wouldn't expect to see the people in FF7 or FF8 in a PC RPG. Even though they the people in FF8 are proportionaly realistic, they're still not realistic looking. Granted it's medevil, but the people in the demo are realistic looking.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt Baskerville; text-align: left; '>...<i>they didn't feel like Final Fantasy characters to me. They just looked like normal people...nothing made them stand out. I've felt the same about the few FFXI screens I've seen. It does look like a typical PC medievil RPG. The characters have always been a major draw for the Final Fantasy games (or any console RPG for that matter), and how they look plays a major role. Locke's headband, Cecil's armor, Zell's tattoo's...things that made them stand out beyond their personalities...when you think about FFIV through FFIX probably the first images that come to mind are the characters. With an online RPG, all that is kind of taken away...unique characters are replaced by generated ones using pre-determined imagery. Something that has made the series what it is will be taken away...I doubt I'll buy or even play FFXI, just like I never even considered getting Phantasy Star Online. They're simply not the same. I don't really care for MMORPG's, the only one I might ever consider playing is the Star Wars one that's coming out, but that's different (I don't know why, but it is...I must become a Jedi).

...there's probably a lot more to this argument than I've touched on here between the different styles of RPG's, but I can't really construct my thoughts on the matter at the moment. Maybe this thread will last long enough to hash out my thoughts...and who knows, maybe I'll love FFXI...maybe it will feel like a Final Fantasy game...we'll all just have to wait and see, but I'm pretty sure I'll like FFX more and hope FFXII gets things back to the same old shit that I enjoy so much...</i></div>

<div style='font: 9pt Arial; text-align: left; '>The least they could do is give the characters the standard "FF uniforms" (e.g. robes and pointy hats for black mages) like they did in FFT, while adding a little room for customization.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt Arial; text-align: left; '>Most of the changes were graphical. The only other major change were the Materia/Junction system, but changes every sequel. They still played like FF, IMO.</div>
