  • Wow.  Civ III is pretty rough.  Much worse than II.

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>I'm trying to play on Monarch and I can't seem to stay on top. Does the computer have fucked-up production cheats or something? I get one city built and already the computer has five. I find four random tech advances and the computer has them all by the time I find them. It seems like the AI strategy is basically "give self all techs and bust player's ass".</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>As far as the city thing goes, the computer will expand like crazy early on, and then again later during the age of exploration. I lost 4 games before I won one game, and that was on Regent. There is a bit of learning curve in diplomacy when it comes to Civ 3.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>I wonder...the computer players on King seem like they have this little private club.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>With 10% in Sciences, you learn something new every 32 turns, while your Economy is BOOMING ahead, you can take the cash you've acquired and trade it for technology from civilizations ahead in that area. Use the techs you acquire to trade with other, less advanced civilizations for resources, and possibly a tech they have that you don't have. Otherwise, sorry to say, you will fall behind a lose the game. Trading is a lot easier, and MUCH MUCH cheaper than learning ALL that technology on your own. You can't win a game on Regent or above without a lot of trading, Warlord I did, and I assume it would be even easier on Chieftan.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>I'm really pissed that they eliminated the view of rival civs' sciences...i have to go around and bug them every time I want to figure out what they have.</div>

<div style='font: 11pt "comic sans MS"; text-align: left; '>Let one of your units win like a ton of battles, maybe ten or more. It will start from regular unit to veteran to elite. From elite, if it wins more battles, it becomes a Leader. Take him to a city and he can get a Great Wonder finished in one turn!</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>No, actually, I have not yet seen one military leader in the game, then again, I have mostly been playing the Egyptians (Religious and Industrious).</div>
