  • So I started a replay of Xenogears...

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>I played no games all semester (better things to do), so being back here with no one really around, I decided to play some games. Unlike some of you, I don't have a PS2 or a Gamecube, so I'm stuck with SNES and PS games. I only played Xenogears once, so why not?

Eh. I got about 15 hours in and decided I'd rather replay FF8 instead. I adored Xenogears the first time through, but I just don't have the patience for it now. Name your complaint with the game, and I'll probably agree with you, just with the reservation that I really liked it the first time. I swear actual game time to story time is at a ratio of 30 minutes of story to an hour of gameplay. Then there's the unnecessary stuff the characters are always saying, and they say it so slowly.

At first, I didn't agree that they should remake the game (after they got through the first three games), but now, I'm thinking they really should. I can now see how in many ways how this was an almost-but-not-quite-there implementation of a great idea.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Other than that and the Junction system, the characters are the most interesting of any FF title, and the music is the best of any FF title. The story is also probably the best of any FF game even though I prefer FF3's.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>Story is the best ever, period. Unfortunately, you figure out that there's just an average game accompanying it. Too bad 'cause the battle system started out so damned cool but ended up being so shallow. And don't get me started on the 3D camera (or lack thereof).....</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>Yeah, I'd have to agree on the story vs script argument. They could have easily done the same thing in about 2/3rd the amount of time and actually given people a reason to replay it</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>I liked the Xenogears story a lot, really well translated, just too bad it's so boring in a lot of parts, especially the end</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Awesome story and good game play. I say good game play because it's "combo" system allowed me to pretend I was doing something other than just waiting and then selecting some option in a damned menu... even though it was the same thing with more button presses.

But really, the game is just too long to play more than once every couple years or so. I only went all the way through it the second time because I forgot a good chunk of the story.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>Too bad there isn't an option to watch just the story after you've beaten it, like Metal Gear Solid. That would be nice</div>

<div style='font: 12pt Baskerville; text-align: left; '>Played it three times, once in Japanese (and yes, the Japanese version is nippleless too). I know...I'm sick...but I'm also able to read the same book multiple times if I really like it...usually worth getting through the dull bits.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt Baskerville; text-align: left; '>Hey, we're not supposed to mention that...that part of the game, or any reference to Chu Chu at all...Chu Chu doesn't exist...Chu Chu was a bug...a little pink bug that got through play testing somehow...really...THERE IS NO CHU-CHU!!!!!!!!!!! Please, father, let this cup pass from me....</div>
