  • Got DQ7...

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

<div style='font: 14pt Agatha; text-align: left; '>...and I'm enjoying it a lot so far. It's old school, but I'm not holding that against it. The graphics outside of battle are first gen PSX, if not worse than last gen SNES, and the FMV is laughable even when you don't compare it to Square. The fact that the character designs are laughable doesn't really help. The in battle graphics are cool and it's neat to finally see animated enemies in a DQ game. But even though the graphics are crap, they don't detract too much I think. The gameplay is classic and I'm enjoying it a lot. I've felt that a lot of games lately haven't had enough battles, even the ones with a kick ass battle systems like Valkyrie Profile. I haven't gotten far enough to try out the job class system yet, but I'm definately looking forward to it. I'm a sucker for systems like this. I spent far more time and had far more fun building up jobs and abilities in FFT than I did actually playing the story portion of the game. The pacing in DQ7 is pretty freaking skewed so far though. It took me a better part of 2.5 hours to get to the first fight and there seems to be some serious downtime with no fighting or adventuring between dungeons. But I've only just unsealed the 2nd island so I don't know if it'll pick up or anything. Anyway, I'm enjoying it a lot despite how many people want to heap shit on it *cough* Don *cough*.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>The GBC remakes of the old Dragon Warrior games all have animations, Dragon Warrior 3 has a lot of added stuff to the game making the gameplay on par with todays modern RPG's. About the battle system, I've argued time and time again that battle systems that are complicated to use, *cough* junction, make fighting almost like a chore. Even Grandia 2 has a fairly simple system, it's diverse, but not very complicated to use, just too bad the battle system is about all Grandia has going for it.

If you are wondering if the story for Dragon Warrior picks up, for a while, it seams like a few mini-quests, but it eventually begins to pick up and become more solid. Still, it is a bunch of smaller stories and as you go on, they become more linked into the larger main story of the game, the gameplay is probably the best of any regular RPG on Playstation. Don't try to fix it if it ain't broke.</div>
