<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Okay, since we have so many players on here - and since Smash Bros kicks ass - it's time for the all-singing all-dancing Smash Bros. strategy thread. I wanna get better. I've read some of the FAQs, but I don't trust that the some of writers are any better than me. So I wanna see if you can take me there.
So - who do you use when you're annihilating opponents? Why? What do you think their strengths and weaknesses are? Who do you think is the best character in the game? Feel free to answer any or all of these questions.
Right now, I use Zelda most often, followed by Samus, followed by Mario.
Shiek is great. My ground combat with Shiek is good; I've got a good skill with multiple dash-A, tilt-back A, and upsmash A. My air juggles need some work, I'm all right but I can't consistently hit magnified enemies off the top of the screen with them, which I feel is the next stop. Zelda I'm not as good with, though I can see that using the Lightning Kick (frontside-aerial A) is key, as well as throwing, since her throws are insanely powerful. The change mystifies me, though - how are you supposed to work the transformation into high-level play? Can you even?
My skill with Samus is probably the best of all. I'm very good with the charge shot all the way up and sneaking it in on unsuspecting enemies. I just learned a combo which could be key - charge shot all the way, throw down, time the charge shot to hit them on the bounce which could be really strong if it hits consistently enough (33% damage reliably). I also have her timing more or less okay and am a decent shot with missiles, etc. It seems like Samus might not be a top-level character, though, as she's somewhat slow and lacks a reflecting move.
Of the three, Mario is my least skilled character but probably the one with the most potential. His moves are incredible. Forward-tilt A (rear leg kick forward) is a great move for 10% damage, his upsmash A is fast enough to break slow smashes, his aerial A and aerial forward+A are amazing too, and none of his B moves are very weak. The cape in particular is an amazing reflector as well as just a damager, plus it can recover you from falls and move you over in the air, making recoveries great. My friend Chol is really very good with Mario - beats level 9 single or free-for-all every time with him, he's showed me how to be good as well. But I need practice.
So - who do you think are the top-level characters, the ones which are playable at the highest levels of competition? Let me know, let's start the discussion!</div>
