  • PS2 games beginning to look better and better. Here's WRC2.

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

Wild ARMs' 5 polygon characters got on my nerves (despite being a good game), compared to Xenogears, which had a great mixture of 2D and 3D graphics. Comparing FF9 isn't fair (SD GFX), but FF8 was MUCH better than FF7.</div>

<div style='font: 11pt "Fine Hand"; text-align: left; '>Seriously. If you look at the improvements of the PSX games from 1995 to 1997, it was quite obvious. N64s were always better than PSX....but they didn't get MUCH better well from its debut.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Almost all PSX games before 1997 were rushed and low budget as well as most major develpers were still focused on the SNES until late 1996, Nintendo's launch titles were all very high budget games except for perhaps Cruisin USA which had by far the worst graphics.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>It's MUCH more difficult to make the graphics in a platformer as detailed and hi-res as a racing game 'cause in a racing game, you can cheat a little more, make static backgrounds or use sprites for the stuff that whiss by, whereas in a platformer, it's all about textures and polygons, much more so than a platformer. Why do you think the racing games looked good MUCH quicker than platformers?

Take a more extreme case of say, Resident Evil vs Spyro. There's a reason RE was far more detailed (aside from the characer models). Static backgrounds allowed for a nice, hi-res texture in RE where in Spyro, the developers couldn't control what the player was gonna see at any given time, so they had to make it completely 3D, taking a bigger hit on the processor (MUCH bigger), hence the lower detail to keep the framerate up

You just can't compare different genres to each other, the process of making the games and the variables involved, particularly in graphics, are much different. That's why Rogue Leader and Halo are much more impressive graphically than Resident Evil for Gamecube, just 'cause it takes so much more to make those two look so damned good (I'm not saying RE doesn't look good - it looks incredible)</div>

<div style='font: 11pt "Fine Hand"; text-align: left; '>Fine...compare Jumping Flash to Spyro. The graphical jump between those two games are quite enormous. The graphical jump between Mario64 and Perfect Dark ain't so much. Hence...they look pretty much the same. But that's N64 for ya.</div>
