  • I just started Lunar 2 this morning, and WOW, why didn't anyone post about how great this game was before? First Impressions....

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Now if you know me, I'm notorious for purchasing games when they come out, but putting them off for a while, sometimes years. It had been a long time since I had really sat down and played a new RPG, I played through Xenogears, and I am happy to say that I very thoroughly enjoyed it the second time through, the problems I had with it the first time through didn't seam to be nearly as much of an issue this time.

Lunar 2, I think that this game perhaps captures more emotion in the characters than Xenogears or any RPG I have ever played, and I'm only a few hours into it. Everything about it so far is great, the animated scenes are extremely well done, and very enjoyable, I don't think I've seen work this well done in the pre-rendered cutscenes aside from Final Fantasy 8.

The developers and translators obviously put a lot more effort into the characters than what is normal for an RPG, they are very human and all of the extra's surprisingly seam to have their own personalities. One thing I always noticed in RPG's of late is that you just talk to people, and they just tell you some information, the first game I played where this was different was Final Fantasy III where most of the extra's seamed to have a sort of unique identity and personalities to themselves, this was followed by titles like Earthbound and Mario RPG, but no game has yet gone to the level that Lunar 2 has. The composition in the game is amazing, it fits in perfectly with the game and combines for a very atmospheric experience. The gameplay is also among the most well balanced of any RPG ever created, it is similar to the first game, but this time it seams like they put even more effort into making it fun and at the same time allow players to think of what to do next. The battle engine is again fun as always. All in all, this is one of those rare titles that I would go so far as to call, a work of art (assuming the game keeps continues on the way it is). In fact, I think the only game that I have ever attributed as such has been Zelda Ocarina of Time.

If you don't have this game, I highly recomend getting it. I will hold off my comparissons to the first Lunar game until after I have finished this one, but so far, I am enjoying Eternal Blue more than the first. If you truly appreciate a good game, then you will very much appreciate Lunar 2: Eternal Blue.

More later</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>I guess you missed all the praising some of us did when the remake came out (and when I played the original 3 years ago). The Lunars are great games, the remakes came out for a reason.</div>

<div style='font: 14pt Calligrapher; text-align: left; '>...but that certainly was awhile ago considering the game has been out for Playstation for over a year now.

...I also recall enjoying Silver Star Story a bit more than Eternal Blue, while both are excelent games. I just liked the characters in the first one more, as well as SSS having the benefit of an infinitely superior villain.

...both games should be in everyone's collection though.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>I really enjoyed the first one as well, I can't really compare them yet, both games are very polished.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>I loved both, but I thought the second was the better game, on the Sega CD anyways. Haven't gone through the PSX ones yet</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>And there was NO nudity in Night Trap....none!

I can't describe the disappointment I felt...

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>But he's still way better than Zophar. I think in SSS they sort of catch the God bandwagon... pretty sure SS originally wasn't that big about becoming Gods and stuff. Ghaleon just wanted an ordered world with him at top.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>But Lunar got it right by not being too ambitious and have 23412398 characters that you can use. Although I don't find most of the cast rememorable they are at least likeable and certainly not forgettable.

I think Lunar is a pretty game but being too modest hurts it from being a great game. They're not really trying to make a say, Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts. It's 'just another RPG' and while they got the basics down pretty solid, it makes you wonder if it could've been better, especially since I always remembered the Sega CD versions to be better since that was made before Lunar caught on the God bandwagon. Lunar: Legends marks something like the 5th remixed game from the Lunar series and it's pretty obvious Game Arts doesn't like to try anything new, and that's my biggest problem with the series. Lunar: The Silver Star was a great game. Lunar: Eternal Blue was another great game. But they pretty much stopped there, and arguably the remixes are a step back from the original.</div>
