  • OK, so who here is getting Metroid when it comes out in 9 days? Are you getting Prime, Fusion, or both?

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>One of the reasons people...not-so-smart people...are so hesitant to call Metroid an FPS is because that genre has a PERCIEVED view of being flooded with mindless, me-too shooters.

Of course, anyone who is familiar with most FPS knows they are anything but mindless...so "FPS" carries no negative consequences born out of ignorance.

So be a good little consumer all you want...label Metroid as a genre-breaking, category defining First-person, tactical combat, jumping, puzzle-solving, ball racing simulation (FPTCJPSBRS)...whatever, I don't care. For me, Metroid is looking to be shaping up to be one hell of a FPS for the GC...perhaps the best (only, for me) reason to get a GC? We'll see...

For someone who loved the first metroid (c'mon, how many of you beat it again to try to see Samus naked? ; ) and Super Metroid, I hope it turns outs awesome.

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>Shit, I hope it's improved. I really always wanted to get into RE, but the control scheme completely put me off. Damn I want money for a GC.</div>

<div style='font: 11pt "Fine Hand"; text-align: left; '>Metroid is FPS. There are some instances where the camera will be third person like when you roll around....but it's FPS 99%. Just like MGS is not a FPS just coz there are some areas where it can be a FPS.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>Call it stupid if you want, but it was intended to be simple. I purposefuly didn't use videogames as a part of the analogy to make it general.

And seriously, quit with the name calling. I am interested in carrying on actual conversations with you, but the name calling irritates me. Just quit it. You're Mr. Cynical and that's how you talk here, but I have little interest in talking to someone who's going to take cracks at me when I have no desire to take cracks at them.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>I'm just reckognizing the the view of the camera does not determine its genre. It all depends on what the emphasis is - and of course, I can't really make that judgement until I actually play the game (well, if I play the game), but everything I've read indicates it is not an FPS.

To me, an FPS is a game whose main point is the shooting, not the exploring. All FPSes have an element of exploring, but generally that's not the focus.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>Especially with the analog sensitivity of the R shoulder button. So many times I'd be creeped out while playing and move forward at a crawl, looking back and forth for critters. If the RE2 and 3 ports have Type C I'll buy 'em (never did play 3, but I'd re-purchase 2 if they gave it the same overhaul</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Well, I was reading IGN, the game has been in the works for more than 4 years, and also had Miyamoto taking part in its development, IGN also scored it 9.8 which is incredibly high.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>I didn't like Rogue leader much, it just wasn't my type of game. Eternal Darkness is my favorite single player game on the system though (not including Animal Crossing which is sort of a multiplayer game the way I see things).</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>I'll stop if you want...but...I liked it... ; (

As for me, you know I don't care if you call Metroid an FPS, Sim or Strat-Rpg...but if you are going to call Sine's comment wrong/flawed (like you all do EVERYTIME he has an opinion), then I'll happily stray into the fray and call your opinion into "question" (not stupid...just your analogy was ; )...

Anyway, at the end of the day, even the IGN editors referred to it as a FPS...and the trailers look like a FPS...so I'll go with Sine, and call it a FPS till I try it... Though I do see your "adventure" point, I simply don't agree...Battlefield 1942 can place all emphasis on Non-combative medics or engineers...but I still wouldn't start referring to it as a medical-repair sim because the meat and potatoes of the game is still a combat shooter...you know?

As I stated, a FPS doesn't mean anything negative to me...if anything, it's a good thing.

And Mr. Cynical doesn't quite suit me...if anything, I'm highly optimistic...but by all means, come up with better nicknames for me...I've been meaning to drop "Kali O." for a while.

It doesn't mean anything negative to me, I just don't think that's the type of game that Metroid is.

Well, I disagree with him a lot. I have trouble keeping my mouth shout when I disagree with a person.</div>
