<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>It also sold fairly well on PSX in North America (it was over a million), but not as well as Super Mario RPG on SNES, FF8 its successor, or any of the Pokemon games. Graphically the game was less advanced than Riven, or even Myst, but the best looking original title on the PSX.
I am not sure if a lot of people bought the PSX because of that game either though it is possible. I always thought it was the Tekken series, Gran Turismo was another major reason, and there was a major boost when RE2 came out; all those games did way better than FF7 over here. The reason I bought the PSX was not because of any one game in general, but because it could support 3D graphics.
FF7 sold phenominally, worldwide it's one of the best selling RPG's of all time. It was only outsold over here by Final Fantasy 8, Mario RPG, Pokemon, and I think that's about it. The year of its release it was overshadowed in a big way by GE007 which was the top selling game (it didn't even sell overly well at first, it took a couple of months before people caught onto it) of the year, and also winning game of the year left and right by editors and fans alike. In fact, GE007 was the game that really got me interested in the N64, and I bought one the same night as I got RE2 for PSX.
I guess it's well known that I'm not overly fond of FF7, it's just not the type of game I like. If you remember when I first got to the Shrine though, I was absolutely loving it, until shortly after Midgar when I had a change of heart. I still love the beginning of the game, very polished and well done, but it seamed like Square kind of rushed the rest.
As for FF10, I still haven't gotten around to playing it, I want to get through FF9 again first, but I am a little side-tracked right now with Zelda and Skies, and even more so now with Xenosaga.</div>
