  • I've been thinking of picking up FFXI with the money I will no dobut recieve for Christmas. But I need to know, will my 56K modem cut it?

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>There are some other things that won't cut it either, like my GeForce2 and maybe my memory, but I've been planning to upgrade those for a while anyway. However, I can't get around my internet connection. I'd have broadband, but I can't afford it since a group of evil pigfuckers called "Comcast" have a monopoly over here, and want to charge me sixty dollars a month for a thirty dollar service because I don't subscribe to their cable (and even if I did, they'd still charge me some fourty-five bucks).

As such, I'm stuck with 56K, and while I've read that 56K falls under the "minimum requirements", I remember back in the day when I got Unreal Tournament and played it under these "minimum requirements" and found them to be very minimum indeed. Am I going to have lag problems with my 56K connection? Or connection problems? Or were those ingenious Japanese able to optimize the data transfer to the point where I won't have any serious problems with my meager connection?</div>

<div style='font: bold 10pt ; text-align: left; '>Well, I'm in China (servers are in Japan) and even I get some pretty nasty lag at the Auction houses (could also be that this is ghetto-high speed).... I haven't talked to anyone playing on 56K tho.</div>

<div style='font: bold 10pt ; text-align: left; '>I pay $40 Canadian for my ADSL, the cable in my city is the same price too (you don't even need to have cable TV service since they are the only cable TV in town).</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>Lagging at the Auction House or something similar doesn't bother me, I just don't want to be fighting some monsters, encounter some huge lag, and the see my corpse sprawled on the ground.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>Well, my "30 dollar" figure is mostly what I think cable ought to cost, but the average seems to be 40 bucks.</div>
