  • Finished Castlevania: Lament of Innocence. Basically, if you like the series, I reccomend you play it. Otherwise, probably not worth your time.

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>I think what hurts this game the most is that the gameplay changes very little. There is a wide variety in how your subweapons work, but your main weapon, the whip, stays the same. I made it through the entire game relying almost exclusively on strong whip attacks. The combos that you learn as you go along did me no good.

There are quite a few secrets in the game, but I made it through almost the entire game without finding any of them - and when I went back to find some, they didn't help me any. That's not good level and gameplay design. It makes the secret items look like afterthoughts.

The levels can get repititious. Lots of walking around. And there's really only six levels to the game. I was honestly surprised when I realized I was on the last level. And then on the last level, I was surprised when I went through a door and I realized I was at the standard long stair case leading up to the final boss.

Basically, the gameplay levels don't have enough variety to keep it fun and new the entire time. It's a solid game, but with so many other good games out right now, I wouldn't bother unless you really like the Castlevania series. I'm going to trade it in to get some store credit and then pick up either Prince of Persia, FFTA + GBP, or FFX-2.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt "EngraversGothic BT", "Copperplate Gothic Light", "Century Gothic"; text-align: left; '>Sounds like they were just trying to focus on getting the idea to work right, which they may have done. I'd imagine the sequel (or next game in the series) will take the idea much further and more in-depth.</div>

It goes through some of the motions, but lots of stuff is missing. If a sequel is better designed, it could take care of those problems. It's just a shame, though.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>Forgot to mention: this is the "official" origin story for the series, and I found it mostly unnecessary and not appropriate.</div>
