The Other Worlds Shrine

Your place for discussion about RPGs, gaming, music, movies, anime, computers, sports, and any other stuff we care to talk about...

  • question, does anyone care for RPGs anymore? or do you all just care for crappy action games like resident evil and halo?

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

<div style='font: 11pt arial; text-align: left; '>FF7 wouldn't have been the game that it was if not for the popularity of the innovations made in FF6. And if you don't think FF6 began blurring the lines between film and game then watch the beginning with Biggs and Wedge again.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>They started by adding elaborate cutscenes with lots of story advancement, but it was nothing like FF7 with the rendered stuff. It was still nothing like the movie experiencde</div>

<div style='font: 11pt arial; text-align: left; '>That's because they couldn't *do* shit like FMV on the SNES. It doesn't change the fact that the move to making RPGs more like movies started with FF6. Obviously, FF7 was a big step ahead in that same direction, but it wasn't the *first* step.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>I also consider Dragon Warrior III to be a fairly important landmark as well, RPG's went from fighting battles and opening treasures to actually solving puzzles and having a detailed plot that wasn't essentially bits and pieces of: "HAHAHAHAHA, you fool, you will never take this crystal from me." "Thankyou, Bright Warriors, for defeating the Evil Knight Sir Dark. I will now open the gate to the next town." "There is ore in the Dwarf city." "The Blue Wings destroyed our town and taken our crystal, please go kill the evil King of Earl"</div>
