  • I'm at 20% with Prime 2, and so far I'm underwhelmed. I know a bunch of you have really liked the game, so I'd appreciate some comments.

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>To a large extent, I feel like I've already played this game before. It's not bad, I just don't feel like I'm having a new experience. Okay, we have light and dark worlds, what you do in one can effect the other - I've seen that since Link to the Past. The gameplay hasn't really seen anything new. I realize that there are some things I haven't gotten yet (I think I read Tort say something about a sonic visor), but do they really change the gameplay that much?

And I realize it has to do with the story, but so far, the environments aren't as lush or interesting as in Prime. For me, that's a big deal; I want to be interested enough in the environment so that I'll explore it further.

I absolutely adored Prime. It was the best gameplay I had experienced in a long time. But Prime 2 just doesn't seem to do it for me yet.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>I too experienced a strong sense of familiarity upon starting it up, and while the gameplay is just as excellent in Echoes as it was in Prime - level design, enemies, and boss fights are all extremely well done - the game never drew me in like the first one did. Even though I enjoyed myself while I was playing, I had a hard time getting myself to sit down and actually play; as opposed to other games I've played lately, MGS3 and KotORII for example, when I find myself thinking about the game in idle moments, and wanting to play as soon as I get a free moment to do so.

It's not that Echoes is a bad game, far from it - I just found myself very uninterested in finding out what was going to happen next, either from an environmental or story standpoint. Zeus and I have already discussed our difference in opinion on this, and Tycho from Penny Arcade would likely decapitate me if he found out I was saying the slightest negative thing about it, but that's the way I felt while I was playing.

It didn't stop me from beating it and enjoying it, however, and neither should it stop you. Didn't stop me from getting 97% scans and 100% items, either.

Oh, and let me just say this: get at least 75% items. You WILL be rewarded. =)

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>You're just scratching the surface, so wait. But if by now you haven't found the dark world to be, at the very least, interesting, you'll likely not find the game as good as the original. I thought the way they pulled off the dark world was extremely well done. It just wasn't comfy to be there...</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>What happens if you get at least that? I didn't think there was a reward....</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>There are two rewards - 75% is the Samus reveal (which everybody who's played a Metroid game, ever, should already be aware of, dammit) and 100% gets you the other reward.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>75% gets you the Samus reveal - anything under that and she wouldn't have taken the Varia Suit off.

100% gets you the other reward, but I won't spoil that for you if you want to get it yourself.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>That *is* interesting. I just got the 75% number from the FAQs (I usually read the FAQs for a game after I beat it), I didn't confirm it myself.

So what sort of Samus reveal did you get? Did she just take off her helmet like she did in Prime, or did you get the full-on Zero Mission-style (blue flight suit, blonde ponytail) shot?

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>When I beat it at 76%, I got the blue jumpsuit and her with a blonde ponytail. My friend beat it at 72% and when he saw me beat it, he said he got the same ending. You sure it's not 75% scans? We both had over that</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>All the FAQs say items, and your item percentage is the one that shows up on the file select screen. I'm pretty sure that's the delineating factor.</div>
