<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Starwars Episode 1 in theatres a couple of years ago sold 925 million at the Boxoffice, the second best selling movie of all time (including ticket price inflation), how is it dead? Personally, I never liked the first 3 and I didn't really think much about Starwars or even mention it until Episode 1</div>

<div style='font: 11pt arial; text-align: left; '>Well, of course it's still a moneymaker - otherwise this conversation wouldn't have to exist. The problem is that Episode 1 and IJ 4 are nothing BUT moneymakers. The SW and IJ trilogies were movie events in themselves. Their time is over. These new films are just playing on nostalgia value</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Show me some evidence to back your claim. Episode 1 is actually better in absolutly every way than the orriginal Starwars movies, and it also obviously made a larger impact as its boxoffice sales were much higher than the orriginal 3, as were its merchandise sales.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt Arial; text-align: left; '>Okay. JAR-JAR BINKS. I don't care what kind of argument you've got, Jar-Jar's presence alone utterly destroys it. I could also name the wretched dialogue and that little pedophile-bait who plays Anakin, but that would just be making the rubble bounce.</div>

<div style='font: 11pt arial; text-align: left; '>When I say that Star Wars is dead I'm not saying that no one wants to see it anymore or that it won't make money anymore. I'm saying that the cinematic event that was Star Wars has ended. Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. That is the Star Wars trilogy. It was established as such in the minds of all Star Wars fans. Going further with the series only cheapens it. Episodes 1-3 can never stand alone as an event in themselves. They will always be "the prequel to the Trilogy" because they are being released simply to play off the pre-established SW fanbase.

It's basically just an argument against sequels, only I'm dealing with IJ4 and the new Star Wars as sequels to an already established <i>series</I> of movies rather than singular titles.</div>

<div style='font: 11pt arial; text-align: left; '>Yeah. The new ones are certainly more up-to-date as far as sfx goes, but when it comes to actual substance - well, there are obvious reasons why Episode 1 wasn't the first SW they released</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>I honestly don't know what Internet people have against Jar Jar when the other Starwars movies had the Droids, that giant dog thing, and those muppets that were all over the place on Jabba the Huts planet.

Obvious points: Liam Neison and Natalie Portman sure as hell did a better job than whoever the hell they had playing Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. The Sound Effects and music score in Episode 1 were far better, as were the Visual effects of the film. The Cinematography in the orriginal Starwars movie was crap, Episode 1 had excellent Cinematography.

All in all, by todays standards, the orriginal Starwars trilogy is an extremely poorly done movie. Even ten years ago when I attempted to watch them the first time, I could not stay awake past the first 20 minutes of any of the 3 films. Episode 1 sold better at the Boxoffice and had record breaking merchandise sales, so OBVIOUSLY it had a larger fanbase than the orriginal movie. I'll just add that the rereleases of the orriginal films with all new scenes and updated visuals didn't do very well at the boxoffice.

The rants and raves of a few thousand balding fatass Internet geeks isn't going to change any of the facts.</div>

<div style='font: 11pt arial; text-align: left; '>The reason it made more money is exactly as I was saying before. The Star Wars Trilogy had reached the status of legendary film series long before Episode 1 came out. Of course it's going to make more money than the original films. That's the very reason why they're releasing the new ones. Not because they're good necessarily, but because every SW fan that emerged during the establishment of the original Trilogy wants to see them and will pay large amounts of money in order to see them.</div>
