So you guys don't think I hated EVERY movie I saw this summer and have become completely synical, let me tell you about two excellent films I saw in the past 4 months that I think everyone should see: Fubar and My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>Fubar is a smaller, Canadian film that is a fake rockumentary, but based on fans of rock music (real loser, drunk types) and not the actual band. It's great, something fans of Spinal Tap should like, particularly if you or an older brother was an 80's rocker fan (sorry G-Man, no 50's stuff in this one). They take the stereotype to an extreme and have a lot of fun with it. It's shot like a student film and really feels like one. Wonderful movie.

My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding is this year's Crouching Tiger. Not a huge release that is just gaining momentum over time in the box office from word fo mouth (it was second on Labor Day weekend with $14 mil, like 2 months after release). And like Crouching, it's as good as you keep hearing. ANYONE with a Mediterranian culture background (Italian, Greece, Arab, etc.) will related VERY well to this movie, particularly if you've got an American/Canadian gf/wife, like I do. And for those that don't, it's still a very funny and great little film. It's the only film I've downloaded and watched that I liked. Hell, I might go see it in the theatres, that's how good it was (and I wanna support movies like these.......good ones). I'm so happy I d'loaded and watched Signs, MIB2, and XXX and not wasted my money in the theatres.

But enough bitching, this post is about the great films, not crap. And EVERYONE should see Fubar and Greek Wedding. Hell, Kali has Greek Wedding on his FTP, that's how I saw it. Now I gotta watch that El Diablo I got off of him. It looks like it could be good. Let's hope.......</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>The family in the movie is SO similar to my family that when my fiancee was recognizing Lent (for anyone reading this post that isn't religious, you fast for 40 days from meat just before Easter) a couple of years ago, we went to a family gathering (I think it was a birthday; can't remember, we have like 2 a month). Just so you know, my family is just like the one in the movie, I have something like 20 first cousins ...on my father's side only (some are kids of first cousins and kids of my dad's first cousins, but you'll know that they're just as close in our cultures as first cousins). So our gatherings are VERY similiar to the choas of gatherings the film. Anyways, I degress. My fiancee was on Lent and told my aunt this, who was the one throwing the party, and thus preparing the food and making sure that everyone ate 4x more than they could possibly stomach (this, of course, means that her family will still have leftover for the next 3 months....). She was appalled that my fiancee wasn't bursting at the seams and threw a big piece of beef on her plate. My fiancee puts it back and says to her "I'm on Lent, I can't eat meat". So my aunt then throws a big piece of lamb on her plate (yes, we have lamb at EVERY gathering too) and says "Well, have lamb then". You can imagine my reaction when I saw the Andrea Martin character say those exact same words in the film. I nearly shit myself laughing. I had to pause the film (I had downloaded it off of Kali) and get the hysteria out of my system.

The best part is, my finacee is Canadian and her father and stepmother are exactly like the groom's parents in the film, so the movie hit home even more with us because of that. Nearly all of my cousins have seen it and we all love it, mostly because it's so damned similar to us. My fiancee also adored it. We've been together for 5 1/2 years now, so a lot of the stuff the groom went through she went through, trying to get used to the family and the cultural nuances and traditions.

Of course, no one in my family heals wounds with Windex, but other than that minor detail, it's almost exactly the same thing as you see with my family.</div>
