  • Donnie Darko. That was brilliant.

  • Your favorite band sucks, and you have terrible taste in movies.

<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>Holy crap. That was really, really good. It's been a while since a movie had such an emotional impact on me. Wow.

I would have ended it just a bit different. After the scene where Gretchen (I think that's her name) waves to Donnie's mother, they should have had one more scene. The next and last scene should have been Gretchen walking into their English class, and she looks at Donnie's empty scene. Fade to black.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>Ending on the wave scene makes more sense to me now. The last two lines of the movie are (almost):

<b>Neighbor</b>: Donnie. Did you know him?
<b>Gretchen</b>: No.

That makes sense for an ending; the last word in the movie is Gretchen saying she didn't know the hero of the movie, her boyfriend. But I still like my idea of her walking into the classroom, hearing the teacher say "Sit next to the boy you think is the cutest" and then looking at his empty seat. Maybe have that scene with the audio from the scene outside his home over top of it.

Anyway, doesn't matter, it's a great movie. I watched most of the deleted scenes. They should release a director's cut. The studio made them cut a lot of relevant stuff because of time, which is a shame.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt Arial; text-align: left; '>I thought that most of the deleted scenes, except for the conversation with Frank, were pretty long and were better off cut from the film.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt Arial; text-align: left; '>The scenes in the directors cut didn't really explain much... except for the extended 'first meeting with Frank' scene which explained Frank's purpose a little better. I think the plan from the beginning was to let you make up your own mind about point of the movie.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>I'm thinking of the scene between him and his father, the extended version of the scene between him and his English teacher, the argument in class between him and Gretchen and the scene between him and his sister, when they're carving pumpkins. None of these scenes really explain what's going on any better (except for the line from his English teacher, "These days the kids have to save themselves because the parents don't know how"), but they go more into the characters and their relationships.</div>
