I thought Shino (bug guy) was dead, until his dad came to rescue him, like...oh, 5-10 episodes later.
Then again, it looks like they've already killed off two minor (Jourin) characters earlier. Also, it's common for them (as well as in Kenshin) to flesh out a somewhat minor character to envoke emotion when they kill them off. Same thing happened with Haku in episode 9 or 10.</div>
