  • so i'm thinking of getting back into magic: the gathering...

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

A few of my friends from high school have recently gotten back into Magic as well. They taught me how to play, and I thought it was pretty fun, but I don't have much of an interest in taking it up. The whole thing just seems too expensive and time consuming.

I used to play in HS, went to local Type 2 tournaments and such at comic book stores. Once i got a good deck, it actually didnt cost me too much to continue playing since i could always get in the top 5 at these tournaments by whipping little kids.

Once Wizards of the Coast decided that releasing 4 sets a year was a good idea i quit playing, it was too hard to keep up. Actually, i guess college is what really broke it off for me.

I still have a bunch of good rares, maybe one day i'll try and sell some on eBay. It would be fun to get back into Magic in a casual atmosphere.

I never bothered with Type 2. I always played Type 1 games with friends. But, it was still too expensive, and it's hard to get people to play nowadays. I started late in the game and people wanted to play some other card game. This was back in college anyway. That group was a good reason why I failed to go to half of my classes.

Type II is playing with only the last 4 or 5 sets, in Type I everything is legal. Type II was easier for the new player to be competitive since there is no way he would have had moxes and shit. Once a new set came out, a set would get dropped and you may have had to reowrk your deck to be type II legal.

Mental, i have a ton of old cards, maybe one day i'll make an inventory and let you know. Or, maybe i'll just send you a random lot of 200 or so if you want.

I thought Type II was only the current set, not the last five sets. In other words, people had to get good with a new set of cards.

you are basically right, i was trying tio make it an easy explanation.

Type II is the latest base set (base sets examples are revised, 4th edition, 5th edition, etc) and whatever set of expansions they feel like calling the 'current' set of expansions.

Sure!

I'm an especially big fan of non-basic/multicolored lands. I loved the old lands like Scrubland, Tropical Island, etc. I'd probably only play Type II for the present if I did start up again, but still, if you have any cool non-basic lands, we should talk.

Magic, the name causes a reaction very close to physical pain to me.

I have nothing against the game itself, I'm sure it's fun. However, the players around here are obnoxious smelly stereotypical D&D types. They may even be furries, I won't ask mind you.

I am still a Geek, just not quite on their level. I play Mechwarrior with a couple of other guys at the place. Incidentally, the store was featured in a VG Cats comic strip. Now I'll have to go find it.

(It relates to the owner, the strip creator and their feelings towards one particular Magic player)

Here's the link.

Jason is the owner, my roomate works for him part time and we have some good times laughing at this guy.

Store is here, http://www.geminijetpack.com/whatsnew.html
my roomate is the Censored one.

I've got to get a picture of the front area, it looks exactly like the comic.
