This has to be one of the most incredible animes I have ever seen. The storyline is extremly moving, the animation is beautiful, and every moment leaves me breathless wondering what is going to happen next. I watched through ep 3 tonight...I dont know if I can handle more at the moment, I might overload. If anyone else hasn't seen this show yet, I have to give it one of the highest recomendations I have ever given...its incredible.

Wait, is that the one where this former battle robot ends up being a maid?

No, that one is called Mahoromatic, and that is more of a comedy. This one is more of a drama in the storyline, and features some of the best storytelling I have ever seen.

The underlying premise of Mahoromatic is quite serious, but it may be hard to tell with the rampant fan service.

I know underlying it is, to a degree. At this point I have only read the first 3 volumes of the manga still, so I havent gotten to where it gets really serious

Volume 3 is the Starlight/Limelight/Searchlight/Moonlight/etc one, right? I think that's the most satisfying part of the manga in terms of story. The story in Mahoro takes place in seemingly unimportant events, and yet in all these little things you see the time counting down inexorably and how Mahoro's thoughts become increasingly more desperate as her time starts to run out.

Granted, about 75% of the series is unneeded garbage fan service, but when the story does have a point, it's quite good.

I have defidently been enjoying what i have read of Mahoromatic so far. I do have to agree with you that the fanservice is way overboard in it though.

Refresh my memory: "fan service" just means overdone displays of tits and ass, correct?

Fan service can be for girls too, though usually guys would be more clothed than girls. Some good recent examples of fan service for girls would be every single character from Prince of Tennis and every character in Hikaru no Go minus Sai (Sai was good looking but there's also a personality behind him). Actually, with garbage like Prince of Tennis and Death Note on top of popularity charts it'd suggest handsome, shallow guys are more effective in getting money than scantily clad girls (maybe because it's too overused?).
