I think nothing compares to EQ's per-fifth-level stacks after level 30. Frankly, I didn't have the patience for even FFXI, though. Building up levels is a grind, period. It's fucking boring, and yet it's the whole damn point of the game.
This won't change until somebody completely re-invents the MMO genre, but everybody's too chickenshit to do that. I mean, hell, an MMO doesn't HAVE to be some RPG-ish level-building exercise where you fight monsters over and over again to gain levels. All MMO means is that you have a bunch of people in the same enivoriment playing in the same universe. Ditch the RPG part of it and try something else. Give me a MMOFPS or MMO action game (like Devil May Cry Online), or a MMO puzzle game, or a MMO fighting game, or a MMO horror game.
The possibilities are endless, but I'm not fucking seeing it right now. It's bad enough that it's taken THIS LONG just to get fucking consoles to get online. I mean, fuck, the Internet has been around and popular for, what, 10-15 years now?
Rosalina: But you didn't.
Robert: But I DON'T.
Rosalina: You sure that's right?
Robert: I was going to HAVE told you they'd come?
Rosalina: No.
Robert: The subjunctive?
Rosalina: That's not the subjunctive.
Robert: I don't think the syntax has been invented yet.
Rosalina: It would have had to have had been.
Robert: Had to have...had...been? That can't be right.
