It's a damn shame that all of the actors are just too damn old to pull off 7-9, so they'll have to get all new ones. That being said, I'd love to see them pull off the "official" 7-9 books with Admiral Thron and his Battle Meditation. (Yep, the idea existed before KotOR.)

Lucas just opened a 3D Animation studio in Singapore (idiot sold his old one to Apple and it became Pixar). It's very easy for them to just make CG films of them and get all the actors back to do voice acting. Hamill's one of the best voice actors around anyways and it's not like Fisher or Ford are doing anything right now. They could turn out quite good and ILM already has the experience doing the 90% CG films of the prequel trilogy. Hell, it would actually save them money....

I think Lucas has said in the past that after Episode III, that's it.

H's flip flopping like John Kerry on that one.

That's like saying Robert Downey Jr. is going to quit drugs for good.

Seriously, he's stuck with Star Wars forever. He doesn't even know how to many anything else. He might even try to make another movie, but he'll just be too engrossed in Star Wars to do anything else.

What's your logic here? In 26 years he's made six movies, which includes a 16 year period between trilogies. That is certainly a large investment of time and effort, but it's not like he's been putting out a Star Wars movie every few years.

It's not just the movies. He's just identified by Star Wars. He's been typecasted, essensially. It's like Eddie Murphy deciding to go do a serious drama. There are cases of reinventions of a character set (Robin Williams, Bill Murray), but they are pretty damn rare.

I dunno. I just don't see him getting out of the SW biz any time soon. For one, it's making WAAAY too much money for him. He can't possibly bail on that shit, even if he is fucking wealthy as hell.

As much as Lucas has pimped out the series over the past 20 years, I believe him when he says that there won't be a new trilogy. He's always mentioned that the films are about the rise and fall of Anakin. And well, we're only one movie away from completing that arc.

Besides, he doesn't even have to make anymore movies to stay rich. He owns one of the leading special effects studios in the industry, and the current trilogy will continue to make a ton of money in merchandising for years to come.

I always thought that was a cop-out to further his excuse that he would be ending the series. Before Episode 1, he was giving everybody the impression it was a 9-part series. Why the hell would he authorize books for 7-9 when he's not going to be making movies out of them?

Lucas has a bad habit of rewriting his own history, and claiming that the old version never happened.

Actually, the fact that he authorized books in the first place says to me that he won't be making episodes 7-9. Lucas is very sensitive about the main story (just humor me here), he has to approve of all books and TV shows (I'm assuming games as well) before they're published and considered to be a part of the extended universe. Nothing against Zahn's books; I enjoyed them, but it's all just glorified fan fiction. Notice that before Episode I there were little or no novels/comics dealing with Anakin or the Clone Wars. This is because Lucas wanted to do these stories himself.

As I understand it, Lucas wrote the draft for one huge story, divided it into nine parts, but figured that he could fit it all into six when he started filming Empire/Jedi. Ever since then (or at least since the early nineties, which was when I started reading Star Wars magazines), he's said that there's only going to be six movies.

It's certainly possible. I'm just saying that if he does, he's pretty much going against everything he's been saying for the past few dacades.
