Actually, Sine, back in the late 70's/early 80's, there actually were porn "movies", with decent production values and actual writing and everything. Granted, for the most part the dialogue was still awful, but there are a few good lines I can remember -
A: "I'm telling you, the world record [for getting a guy off via a blowjob] is 6 minutes and 33 seconds."
B: "Is that indoor or outdoor?"
A: "What's the difference?"
B: "Wind resistance."
A: "Ann is pretty good at giving a blowjob, though, isn't she?"
B: "Yeah, I'd have to give her about a seven and three quarters."
A: "Why only 7 3/4?"
B: "That's as high as my scale goes."
A: "All right, fine. Gloria can cook and I'll clean."
B: "I don't cook."
C: "We have a woman come in for that."
A: "Okay, then I'll cook and Gloria can clean."
B: "I don't clean, either."
C: "We have a woman come in twice a week for that."
A: "Well, then, what do you do?"
B: *silence*
A: "Ah, I guess you just suck cock then. Or do you have a woman come in twice a week for that too?"

See? Funny stuff. Also from the 70's is "The Devil in Mrs. Jones", which is about as close as you can get to a porn movie having good, legitimate plot and acting - the female lead, Georgia Spelvin, was an actual actress, and did a decent job with it. (I would have liked the movie a lot more if the sex in it had been any good.)
Anyway, back to the discussion at hand - I believe the death of the pornographic "movie" came about with the advent of video and the growth of porn into a big business, when people eventually found out that people would still pay good money for porn with plots of less and less quality. And then when the internet hit and the main distribution of porn became jpegs and 20-second video clips, it pretty much disappeared entirely from the "mainstream" and now movies with plots are only being produced by a few companies. Hell, movies with vaginal penetration are only being produced by a few companies these days - I read an article once in which an executive of a porn company told the interviewer, "Pussies are shit."
(Note: As you can see, I have sort of an academic interest in porn. I'm no Jim Holliday, but I still find it interesting.)
