I don't really know much...I've just been noticing articles on Wikinews about it.

While the idea of another batch of Christians in office trying to uphold Christian views in more places than they're already established makes me want to throw up, or cry, or do both at once, I don't really know what Merkel's Christian Democrats are about or if they're significantly different than the wretched bunch we've got over here.

"The CDU believes that mankind has a responsibility to God in upholding the Christian ideals and caring for the environment" is a quote from their Wikipedia article, which would at least imply that, unlike Bush and his oil-baron folks, they have a moderate amount of environmentalism to go with the Christian intolerance, but I don't have any firsthand experience with them.
