I'm not sure what caused all this, but apparently Kevin Smith decided to go out of his way and defend himself to the notoriously moronic AICN talkbacks.
I don't know why, but I always thought is was cool to see a guy like this interacting directly with the great unwashed Internet masses.
Anyway, here's the AICN post with talkbacks:

Favorite Kevin Smith quote (of the ones I've read...and there's plenty other good ones):
My faith in humanity has been restored. Sir, I'm NOT a big director (unless you count the gut); as someone here aptly put it, I'm a fanboy in director's clothing (size XXL... alright, alright - XXXL; sheesh, let a brother dream, will ya'?). I'm an avid movie/film fan who took a shot at making his own flick, and it suddenly turned in to a career. There ain't a day I don't wake up and think "Fuck, I'm more lucky than talented." But either way, I hit the jackpot: I get to earn of my hobby. But I never forget that this whole film thing is something I lucked into more than anything else. I get that I'm out-classed, out-directed, and out-done by 99% of the directors working today (alright, alright - 100% of the directors working today). However, that doesn't change the fact that I got my dream job. And for as many people who actually peep the stuff I do and dislike it, there are a bunch of cats who feel the opposite. And it's thanks to the latter group that I get to continue doing what I do. Does that make me a big director? No. It makes me an insanely lucky fanboy who gave it a shot and scored. If any of the haters here used their time to try the same (to actually create something) instead of bashing on the folks whose only crime was doing rather than blasting those who do, they might find themselves in my same position. But for now, their content with their current position: on bended knees, with my cock in their ass.
