  • DS or Guitar Hero?

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

This year, my girlfriend and I decided that we would get each other's present when we finally decide on what we want. So while she's pondering on what exotic makeup brand with a high cost to content ratio to get, I have narrowed my selection down to two these two items.

I've had my eye on the DS for a while. The last portable I bought was the Gameboy Color, and after that I played GBA games on emulator. I spend a lot more time away from home, though, so I actually have a reason to own a portable now. However, I've also heard nothing but praise about Guitar Hero from here and other places. And I'm sure it'll make an excellent party game. What do you guys think?

Well, I have no idea what guitar hero is, so I can't comment on that. As for DS, I have all the systems right now except for 360 and PSP, and the DS is my main gaming system by far and has been since the end of the summer.

WTF? There's a 60-post thread with 800 views called "I got Guitar Hero" in this forum, and you have no idea what it is? I'm baffled.

Anyway, Torgo, as someone who actually knows what GH and the DS both are and owns both of them, I'd say it's a tough call if you're only going to pick one. GH is an absolute blast, and it even inspired me to dig my guitar back out of the closet and start taking lessons. However, I've only owned a DS now for three days, and I'm very impressed with the system and its games - not to mention that the DS is also a slightly larger GBA SP.

Here's my fiendishly pragmatic advice - since the DS is more expensive, ask your GF to get you that for Xmas, and then buy GH yourself. >:)

I'd have to agree. It's what I would do. :)

Guitar Hero for 2 months of gaming godliness, DS for 5 years of gaming excellence

GH would be good for parties. (Sorta like the DDR party we just had last night.) But, I can imagine throwing that fucking guitar across the room on some songs.

Oh yeah, you do get the urge to destroy the guitar....once you're able to actually figure out what the hell is going on.

But once you get into the game and actually start listening to the song to play it rather than just trying to hit the notes that are coming at you, you really get into it and want to do it 'cause you do actually feel like you're playing the song even though you're really not. And it's hard enough that it gives you a great sense of accomplishment.

And it's great for groups 'cause you wouldn't think it, but it's freakin' fun just watching it and alternating turns. And if you can actually get two guitars together and play on multi, you're alternating the song back and forth which is pretty fun.
