You guys have to have an opnion on this, right? It has only been everywhere lately.

Frankly, i think people (the general US public) is flipping out simply because the country involvded happens to have 'Arab' in the name. From what i know, the UAE is a rich, small, peaceful country and the company involved has been running some British ports for a while to a good degree of success. I do not believe our security is in any way in jeopardy due to this sale.

In fact, the politicians that are in an uproar and the idiots i have to hear talk about it everyday are getting dangerously close to blatant discriminination and racism and it is making me angry to hear about it. We have good relations with the UAE and people need to calm the F down.

Arguments people try to pass off as valid reasons are so hypocritical, "It has been proven that the UAE once sent money to the Taliban!!!!" Well, guess what, we sent money and weapons to them too in the past and have been involved in all sorts of shady operations; i.e. Iran-contra.

I hate Bush and his administration with a nearly religious passion, but this type of thing doesn't really bother me. It doesn't seem that the UAE is particularly a huge security risk, though I don't know well enough. A lot of the vocal critics are the arch-conservatives, who have a reputation for knee-jerk patriotism.

However, it would be nice if Bush would wake up to the fact that public reaction to his administration's shenanigans is starting to approach the ludicrous.
