Easily my favourite part of it was the Red Steel Demonstration, that game looks phenominal. My biggest disapointment with the conference was the lack of virtual console stuff.
Red Steel: the game looks fucking awesome, and I fairly certain the two who were demonstrating it were psychopaths. Essentially the impression I got from the demonstration was the most intense, action pact, and immersive action game I have ever seen. I think this demonstration clearly showed (more so than Nintendo's) that Wii is something new. Sword fighting also looks quite awesome, two swords controlled with each section of the controller (sort of like Miyamoto Musashi style dual katana); the remote used mainly for precision attacking, while the analog side is used for the smaller katana primarilly for defensive parries. The freeze targeting system looks awesome as well: essentially you freeze the frame, and then target all the areas you want to shoot, and the main character will shoot them all very quickly once time starts up again.
If any game was going to steal the show from Red Steel it was Zelda: The Twilight Princess. I must first say that for a game developed of this generation it looks excellent. Essentially where the Faery is on the screen is where the Remote is pointing. It also does look like this Zelda title will be offering a good amount of challenge as the demo actually had to be dumbed down in difficulty. It should be noted that Revolutions version of Twilight Princess seems to be sold separately of the gamecube one.
Third, they had a very impressive tennis demo: Miyamoto and the winner of some contest were up on stage against Reggie and Iwata. That tech demo looked like a lot of fun, I really do hope these sports titles materialize into an actual game.
Oh yeah, before I forget, Project HAMMER looks like it'll be loads of fun as well, but I want to see more. Nintendo did not show enough of its own games. The Wii games which got the biggest reactions were:
1) Red Steel
2) Tennis Demo
3) Mario Wii
4) Sonic the Hedgehog
5) Twilight Princess
They didn't show any game trailers to the extent that we have been seeing of Zelda Twilight Princess and Xenosaga Episode III over the last year. This was almost purely about gameplay, and just about everything they showed in video form were gameplay videos.
Next was DS, lets just say if you've got a DS, or are planning on getting one that there is A HUGE amount of awesome looking games coming for it. The major surprises were: Starfox, Diddy Kong Racing, and Yoshi's Island 2: lets just say all three will be in my collection the moment they hit storeshelves.
Overall, it was a good show, but I can think of a lot more things that they could have put into it: they did NOT dedicate enough time to DS, for example. They should have at least mentioned that they do have a system called Gamecube and Baten Kaitos is coming to it. Lastly, I heard thatthey had a title by the name of "Smash Brothers" coming to Wii at launch, where was that? So overall, what they showed was good, but I wanted more. I guess TGS and Spaceworld will show that later. They did say they will be showing 27 games tommorow (none of them virtual console titles).
