I don't see how a poll done on Famitsu readers for future consoles has any relevence on the current market share. I also don't see how high sales before 8 months ago has much relevence on which system has been selling the best in the past 8 months.

The xenophobic crew strikes again!

I think the best comparison here is a $400 360 with live at 50 bucks a year, plus a $600 PS3 with free online play. Need to know more about the PS3 online, cause it still takes 4 fuckin years to balance out.

I'm getting a 360 relatively soon, and I'll probably also have a PS3 when the price drops. The Wii scares me because I don't like the controller at all, even after seeing games with it. Also, I'm a sports junkie so its just not feasible for me to have a Wii and nothing else.

Sony cleverly avoided all mention of Online Gameplay being part of their Free Basic Service...perhaps it was just an unfortunate oversight?

.....

........

I wouldn't hold my breath for PS3 online being free - which is not exactly a bad thing though. You get what you pay for.

They were showing off the Marketplace a lot. Maybe they think they can charge a relatively nominal fee and use it as an income stream like Microshaft?

I'm wondering how the Nintendo online will be? Free online play and for download stuff. I don't think it's going to have all the bells and whistles (no download movie trailers or anything), but if they can offer a free one that allows for game playing, downloading demos or updates or patches, and it works well, maybe Sony and Microshaft will actually offer their for free?

I've never liked the idea of paying for a game THEN paying to play online. Gouging IMO.

Actually, you were right the first time. However, is this really that big a deal? I bought a 13-month Live card the other day for $50. 50/13 = $3.85/month is not about to send me to the poorhouse. I mean, what's going to be Sony's selling point? "Since you don't have to pay for the PS3's online service, you can go to McDonald's one extra time a month!" :D

Still seems a little vague. Unnamed PR Manager "Please note that online gaming will be free right out of the box."? Eh, maybe...seems fishy though.

Once again, a pay service is a better idea imo. That way, online function is a product that demands support and service - not just a shitty afterthought.

And ya, I bought Live Starter pack (12 months, extra headset, 500 points and a XBLA game) for 69 bucks last month...that included $25 off my next game purchase, so $44 canadian. Hell, if you are paying $299-599 for a console, is ~$4 a month for a quality extra really going to kill you?

This is a little off topic, but when I look at your gamercard on xbox.com it shows you as being Silver. Are you waiting to activate your Live membership for some reason, or is something screwed up?

(btw, if you're waiting to activate Live until there's a game you want to play on it available, online 4-player UNO is surprisingly fun.)

Waiting. When there is a game I really want to go online with, either purchase or rental, I'll break out the card. I don't see it happening with summer coming up, but I'm keeping an open mind (UNO doesn't really do it for me though).

Looks like PS3's popularity has dropped off signficantly among Famitsu readers. Only 3 games out of the top 10, less than 1/3rd of the interest of the Wii (Xbox 360 is closer to PS3 than PS3 is to Wii). Nearly 90% of those polled think that the system is high priced. It also looks like 360 could be gaining ground as well as Halo 3 made it into the top 10, and it is over 1/3rd as intersting as the PS3 (this is a huge deal considering it is a non-Japanese product).

Famitsu polled their readers on which games they were most interested from E3:

1. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii, Nintendo)
2. Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Square Enix)
3. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3, Konami)
4. Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen & The Tower of Mirrors (Wii, Square Enix)
5. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii, Nintendo)
6. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii, Nintendo)
7. Final Fantasy III (NDS, Square Enix)
8. Monster Hunter 3 (PS3, Capcom)
9. Biohazard (Wii, Capcom)
10. Halo 3 (Xbox 360, Microsoft)

Which Console they were most interested in from E3:
Nintendo Wii - 68.8%
PlayStation 3 - 21.0%
Xbox 360 - 7.2%
Nintendo DS - 3.0%

What they thought of the PS3 Price:
The price is too high - 88.4%
The price is fine - 10.9%
The price is a good deal - 0.7%
