I just recently saw this on the dish. It's a lot better than I thought it would be. It had a great old-style feel to it but still had some spectacular special effects (the fight scene between Kong and the Rexes was AWESOME). It was a great homage film and a pretty well done remake, IMO.
But I can definetely see how this film would have dragged in a theatre, especially if you're expecting some kick-ass stuff in the beginning. It took what, an hour to get to Kong? At home, sitting on your couch, it's not so bad, but in the theater, it could definetely drag. They should have cut out a bit in the beginning, say 20 minutes, then made the extended for the home version, like Lord of the Rings. Would have made the pacing much better for theatre watching. I like it where it is now, but it would have definetely been a drag in the theatre.

I was there on that fateful day, were you?
