Personally I think that the move is ridiculous. Why bother making the Senate a redundant body in light the House of Commons? It doesn't seem like something that would be passed. I remember when it was suggested that the Senate be eliminated, and no one wanted that either.
Essentially the Senate is Canada's House of Lords. They actually have more power than the House of Lords do currently, but would never use it unless the elected House of Commons manages to pass something quite ridiculous. The only thing I would like to change about the Senate is that it should be provincially based as opposed to Federally based; Premiers, not Prime Ministers, should appoint the Senate.
