I hate looking for work!

I've sent out eight or nine applications. I've got one phone interview today (a Redhat Linux support job), another company digging around to see if they can find a job for me, and others I need to call back.

I'm lookin' for a newer job too but I'm in a good position so I can wait for the right one. It's hell otherwise, i agree

I forgot about this thread!

I found work: similar position in the same industry for exactly the same pay (I should have asked for more, as they didn't blink at my salary expectations.).

My new company's structure is a lot looser than the last one's, which is great for me as it means I get to do a heap of stuff my way. It helps also that they're developer-starved: anything that I can do to help with dev stuff is appreciated. I've gotta learn JSP if I want to play with the big boys' toys, though, which is a bit disappointing.

That is the plan!

Fuck me, though. JSP. Java! Belly of the beast!

Java is like COBOL. Everybody wants programmers that know it, but it's a fucking garbage language.

Have you ever done any significant development in anything other than Perl?

Have you ever had to write COBOL? That's a cruel comparison.

Yes, I've developed a bit in Java. It's a total memory and CPU hog. It works when you need a Java applet, but too many people develop for it when you are just working on one Linux/Apache system. It's designed to be a multi-platform system, but that's all it should be used for.

I'm on shaky ground again, but I'm planning on getting out ahead of this latest company catastrophe. No loyalty here, bitches! It's been ground out of me!
