Dammit. I thought Shellie posted this here. I don't want to be "that guy" posting the anti-iPhone video again, but it's too funny to not pass up:

(NSFW language)

Which I have to say is a pretty shitty rebuttal at that.

Someone's got a hard-on against this guy. Without this news, no one would even know the guy worked for Best Buy. It's only going to be bad press for them for no reason whatsoever. Morons

As someone who worked for best buy in college, yea they are morons. This has now blown up in their faces.

How did they know who it was?

His name is Brian Maupin. It took me about three clicks to find that out. Video on YouTube -> info mentions webcomic -> history for webcomic has his name. Search in employee database for Best Buy to confirm.

I wouldn't have bothered to watch the video until I found out someone was getting fired over it.

We're talking about the vanity of the Facebook generation here. People's real names are all over everything

I can sort of see BB's side. The video is directly related to his job, clearly he has animosity towards his customers which would make a bad cell phone salesman... I mean, most people hate their job, but its not a good idea to parody it with your name plastered all over the place.

If the video was a completely random cartoon that the guy does on the side as a hobby, no one would care. While i hate and think it is completely unfair that companies nowadays are searching people on youtube, facebook, twitter, etc to see what kind of person they are socially (i.e. HR departments finidng pictures of you drinking and not offering a job because of it), BB has a reason to be concerned here when the video sort of reflects upon their customer service, right?

Flip, think about it: if the story didn't come out that a Best Buy employee was about to get fired for this video, who would have known it was a Best Buy employee? People are allowed opinions, ain't nothin' wrong with that as long as it doesn't affect your job. I'm a gov't auditor who doesn't agree with half of the laws yet I still adjust for those laws. I'm sure this guy has sold more than his fair share of iPhones (not like you could stop the Apple bitches to begin with....). And who knows, maybe he's not against Apple completely, he's just playin' up the stereotype?

Whether it affects your job or not will come up in performance review. Now, they have negative PR for no reason whatsoever due to their short-sighted idiocy.

If you published a parody video about how silly the government employees and policies are, with the use of curse words, and it got out that you made it and everyone you worked for knew that, i'm pretty sure you would get let go. The problem is the video went viral and yes we, as the unsuspecting public, didnt know he was a best buy employee, but once best buy found out they cant keep someone on staff who does that.

Probably not. Firing true federal employees - civil servants, not just contract workers - is very difficult. My father just retired after 40 years with the federal government spread between the Army, NOAA and NASA, and he always said civil servants are called headless nails: you can only pound them in further, you can't pull them out.
