  • EA posts 641 million dollar loss, cuts 1100 jobs

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

Reuters reports

As a result of this there will be some delayed games. Shares have increased 6.7% as a result. I do know that on the Canadian side we're losing Blackbox. Teams on Need for Speed (Blackbox), Mirror's Edge (DI), and Dead Space (EA Redwood) will likely see the hardest hit as these were the titles that underperformed the most. EA is cutting 9 studios. People will discover their layoffs March 1st.

On another note, THQ has also gotten rid of its mobile games division and around 100 jobs were cut. This is largely due to the rise of the iPhone and no longer the need for so many devices. They were one of the leaders in the mobile games industry.

Errr, underperformed? Everybody is raving about Dead Space, and Mirror's Edge at least has a following, if not good reviews (not sure, haven't seen any reviews yet).

Now, maybe if these cocksuckers learned how to release their fucking games in a proper schedule, ie: not 50 games at the same time, then maybe you wouldn't have gamers competing to figure out if they want to play Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3, Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, etc. Just because it's Christmas doesn't mean that everybody is going to buy all of the games as the same time. And especially if you're going to call it "poor sales" when it's only been out for a month.

This is the kind of shit that killed Clover.

And so it begins...

Dead Space and Mirror's Edge were considered "underwhelming" by EA themselves. Critical raving don't translate to dollars and that's what Seek's referring to.

I agree with the Xmas release thing. Look at all the best selling games of last year (all of the top 5), they came out before June. Companies gotta learn to release some throughout the year. Ubisoft has a big problem there and it killed Persia this year and Beyond Good and Evil in the past.

Mirror's Edge had gameplay a touch on the unforgiving side, so it made Parkour feel like work. Not really the way to go.

It's a shame...I was really excited about it, too.

mirrors edge is awesome.....it's stuntman with feet instead of cars. I loved it as a puzzler and by the time I had it mastered I've been loving it.

i still will play through it, but it's off the "gibbering anticipation" list it was on for me for awhile. i do have to say that the graphics in mirror's edge are quite literally the best i've ever seen on a console, though. i almost cried when i saw that the gameplay videos weren't just polished fakery...

i mean, if i actually had any sort of decent income right now i would have bought it weeks before it came out, but, i don't.

so sad, too, considering i used to WORK for the damn company that became EA mobile. but i have to get over all that shit.

If you're a graphics person; I saw a bit of Heavy Rain on PS3, and that game seems to look very good graphically. It might be a new winner.

graphics alone won't do it for me, but mirror's edge has incredible art direction too. there's not much that's carbon-copy about it, and the character animation..."wowzers".
