Little King Story first impressions

Another jewel by Xseed, though I hope this one doesn't slip under the radar like Rune Factory Frontier, which is one of my favourite games in the last decade. Little King Story is a mix of highly imaginative fairy-tale story telling and a conquest/RPG with surprising depth that becomes immediately apparent.

At its core, it is an RPG that expands into different realms (including combat, farming, building, etc) where the things you do not only expand your initial town, but shape the growth of a people and an empire. From village to Empire.

So far, the RPG elements are a lot stronger than I initially thought they would be. I haven't played a game like it before, though it fits in the realm of Harvest-Moon/Run Factory, Animal Crossing... Only unlike those games there is incredible opportunity for expansion of your world. It starts off small, about the size of Animal Crossing's world; but as you develop your Kingdom, you can expand your realm and the area you can travel. Also the number of people expands, they'll all have unique personalities and different things to say given the situation; with inuendo in the speech of some =)

Fun Factor - the game is incredibly fun so far. Better yet, it is a game that is both fun and gives you something to look forward to, you don't really know what kind of adventures are ahead.

Overall - I am looking forward to the story as it unfolds, and the new people and places I will reach. The new sorts of technology I can incorporate into my growing Kingdom. So far I say get this one, I'll write more about it later.

So now I am about 10 hours in. Some of the new things I have done is:

-Passed laws
-Explored many areas that remind me of Fantasia (the music also adds to this)
-Brought my first princess to court after defeating the first rival Kingdom across the river.... Though now 6 more Kingdoms have appeared on the map. Her name is Princess Apricot, and she looks just like Princess Peach.
-I have continued conquering territories around my capital, bringing them under my direct control, expanding my city.
-I have expanded my military
-Received two different methods of organization for my Royal Guard
-Implemented Cannon travel (Yeah, just like Secret of Mana)
-Increased the housing for the populace (more tax collection, but the real money is on raids in the surrounding region =P)
-Built some new industy buildings, Chefs, master carpenters, lumberjacks, florists, stone masons, art gallery, flourists, etc....
-Expanded my palace
-Conversed with merchants for various purposes (most recently to increase my weapons technology.


Oh, I noticed that despite the fairy-tale/Disneyish of the title, it is actually rated T, this is likely due to the inuendo and the fact that the town has a dark-side which is much like German War Fever and the Roman tradition of taking the leader of the enemy and parading him through town before executing him =P Well, these are bloodthirsty citizens; but they remain so in the context of how medieval fairy-tale characters would act.


This game is absolutely fantastic so far. While it offers a lot of really cool stuff to build in town and such; lots of people to talk to. My favourite part of the game is exploring the world and finding out what sort of wonders this Fantasia-like world has to offer.

Back home I have most of my citizenry in the role of Soldiers, so my city is looking much like a military dictatorship =P

Right now it is safe to say that this is my favourite game on the Wii. It is really sad to see that very few people have actually ever heard of XSeed or their games; Rune Factory Frontier and Little Kings Story are games that I do think millions could enjoy a lot.
