Free DLC for Defense Grid, just 4 new maps but hey it's free! Haven't tried them yet myself but it did download already.

Kudos for Shrin for noticing this but and since a lot of us played it I thought it worth repeating.

Tried one that sounded the easiest and it was very difficult. These maps do not disappoint.

Is this actually DLC, or just a patch that was automatically downloaded? Steam doesn't see any DLC for it.

Patch that automatically downloaded. If you look at the update log or whatever it'll tell you that they've updated some things and that they've released "Borderlands" (which isn't confusing at all considering that none of us bought and played the ACTUAL game Borderlands) but if you open it up as normal when you hit Single Player or whatever it splits it up as "The Awakening" (the maps as before) and "Borderlands" (the four new maps). I finished them all, now (although not all done with them score-wise) but one is actually easy.

I'm still very much looking forward to them releasing some actual DLC that they charge for. I imagine any kind of 'expansion' they come with, even without any new towers, will be fun and time consuming as all kinds of hell. But still, considering how long it's been four free new maps? To rehook us (hopefully) so they can charge us VERY soon for some real content? GOD YES. So many high production games later, I would still rather have some very fun new maps from them to fuck around with.

But still.

FUCK RUMBLERS.

There are also other challenges on the older levels. There's a interesting "poison core" mode, where the core will kill any enemy it passes when it's going back to the AI, and you get no resources. This basically amounts to making sure that it doesn't get taken at all, as the lack of resources would hurt you in the long run.

There's also a super hard "Super Grinder" mode. I love Grinder modes because it's just walkers over and over again, but these throw out other aliens for 99 rounds. I was trying it out on the Last Stand level, and my current strategy isn't working. Stuff like the fast moving aliens take a big chunk out of me. (Even with lasers, it is hard to kill these guys.)

New update released today. The only listed changes are ATI performance issues are fixed and "support for future DLC." Hope this means they're about to start regularly releasing content.
