I might wander over to the lincoln memorial tomorrow just to hate on this dumb ass rally going on tomorrow. Beck and Palin are putting on some sham of a non-political show on the anniversary of MLK Jr's I have a dream speech and, obviously, at the location itself.

Why they think it is in bad taste to build a mosque at ground zero, but this is not a mockery, is beyond me. Its pissed off a lot of social equality leaders as the tea party, and republican, values are very contrast to what MLK Jr thought, fought, and ultimately died for.

We have a mosque in the Pentagon and a strip club "at" Ground Zero. What's the problem here? Is Islam suddenly not the third most popular religion any more?

God, and he's trying to pretend like the rally is independent of any political meaning aside from the event. From CNN:

"Beck, a hero to many conservative voters across the country, says that the mission of the rally is to honor American troops and that the event is nonpolitical."

You... couldn't pick another day?

Edit: As weird and as bad as this is... how was there already not something more worthy already booked.... *sigh*

I think it's insulting that CNN called him a "hero".

I unfortunately know relatives that went to that rally :(

He picked the day so it would raise controversy, nobody would have cared or talked about it if it was last weekend. And seriously like Shrin said why hadn't anything else been scheduled there due to the anniversary?

He knows what he's doing. He's like a right-wing Eminem. Create controversy to sell records, er, I mean his shows/books.

That would be an insult to Eminem.

I'm a conservative voter and he's not my hero. Neither is Rush Limbaugh. They are out to make money from shocking political remarks. I've always seen through that. If I could just convince my Dad of the same...

As an outsider I can only say that the intersection of conservative* politics and entertainment in the USA appears to be cynical, disturbing, and damaging to the democratic process. The people that attended that rally believe in Glenn Beck. That belief is powerful and meaningful but it is being harnessed by, frankly, a crook or an idiot in Glenn Beck, and an organization whose only responsibility is to itself and its shareholders in Fox News. That is deeply creepy.

* I would also like to register my objection to the term conservative as it is deployed in North American politics. Most self-described conservatives appear to me to be radically right-wing.

Most PUBLIC conservatives in the media are like that. What we are witnessing is the crazy 10% of the conservative population getting most of the attention. Moderates and sane conservatives are getting fed up with it over here, and it's going to matter in the polls.

Exactly. And I consider myself one of those sane conservative voters. I may end up crossing party lines and voting for Jack Conway (D-KY) for US Senator. His platform seems common sense and he has an "A" rating from the NRA (At least according to his campaign information. I cannot confirm on the NRA website.). Rand Paul is too much drama and has too many extremist views.
