He played the main character, Erik, of the 1958 movie The Vikings, alongside Kirk Douglas as Einar, Ernest Borgnine as Ragnar, and Janet Leigh as Morgana; this was one of my very favourite movies of all time.
He is the father (with Janet Leigh) of actress Jamie Lee Curtis.
He is probably best known for his role as Antoninus in Stanly Kubrick's Spartacus, the ambiguously gay slave who had an education. He was also well known for his role of Joe in Some Like it Hot.
He was 85.
