  • Sony really fucked up with the PSN Plus deals

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

So after the freebie month is now over for most people (you get 30 days from the day you signed up), I have to say that Sony really fucked people over with the 1 month of PSN Plus. The initial freebie games (WipeOut, Stardust, Dead Nation, etc) were pretty decent but the PSN Plus deal were absolutely atrocious. The only decent deal I saw all month that was PSN Plus exclusive was Braid for $3.75. Good price but that's a 4 year-old game everyone has. The best freebie download was PS1 version of Abe's Exodus. Great game but not exactly a hot, hot title (or even one 98% of the PS games would even have heard of).

Fuckers even eliminated some stuff before the 30-day period started. For instance, prior to the attack, if you were a PSN Plus member, you could get any of the PS1 imports for $3, which is half the regular price of $6. I probably would have bought 5 or 6 games if they were still discounted. But when the PSN came back and they knew that everyone had PSN Plus, they took that shit away.

And even for those of us who waited 'til the last second to sign up and have almost another month to go, they haven't changed it back yet. My theory is they're waiting 'til the 2 free months they're giving the PSN Plus subscribers to end before the real deals come out. Kinda stupid IMO. You'd almost think they'd wanna blow a bit of their load to a) get some good PR and b) try to convince some of the people to sign up for the Plus after the freebie period ends. But it's exactly the opposite where they seemed to give you far less than what it actually is as a way of not "losing" money. Losing is in quotes because it's not actually money they're losing, they're just not making the same margins; they're not accounting for the 99.5% of the people who wouldn't have spend the coin in the first place.

So what did I get so far for the PSN being down for a month? Dead Nation and Super Stardust HD. Plus, so far I've downloaded and played Streets of Rage 2, two PS Minis, the obsolete version of Magic: Duels of the Planeswalker (been replaced by the 2012 version right now), and Bomberman Ultra (same version as Live, which was released on disc on Xbox). The two freebie games were good but the rest are really negligible. In fact, the better deals have been under Special Offers as opposed to PSN Plus exclusives (Re-Armed for $5, Capcom's PSP remakes for $5, Assassin's Creed 2 with extra scenarios for $10, Burnout Paradise expansions on sale this week).

Sony really fucked up with the PSN Plus deals, they fucking sucked.....except if you waited to sign up, then you can actually take advantage of their Summer Sale (I'm getting the Back to the Future games and if you don't have Pac-Man DX, it's $5). But that's only if you waited to sign up

I was holding off on the free month of Plus while waiting for deals I may want to take advantage of. It seems I waited too long, because the offer is no longer available.

Yeah, you had to sign up by July 3, which is 30 days after it became available. I signed up on July 2 for that reason

Wait 'til the Summer Sale starts tomorrow. That's gonna be a pretty swift kick in the nuts to the ones who signed up right away

I've been a PS+ subscriber from day one, but haven't signed on with my system since they blocked modded consoles from connecting. Whenever something like this happens, I just log in on a friend's system to add the items to my downloaded list so I can get them later at some point if modded consoles can ever get back on.

Modded PS3? I did this to my PS1 back in the day to play burned games, but what advantage did you add to your PS3 that is already pretty kickass?

My guess...he added HDDVD playback. That's the only thing missing from it. ;)

You know that, technically, I buy a TON of new games at full price, yes? A lot of publishers see a lot of money because of me. And EB even, in their eyes, make a ton of money off of the games I trade in to there. I just happen to pay 50-60% of retail of the new games for those used games I"m trading it towards it. Just because I happen to be a saavy consumer who doesn't steal from anyone (I don't d'load games I can buy) don't mean I steal from the industry
