The Sens just ploughed right through Tampa Bay: 4-1, 8-4, 5-2, and 3-2 in a 4-1 series.

Battle for Alberta looks more likely as well: Edmonton leads Detroit 3-2, and Calgary leads Anaheim 3-2

Edmonton will beat detroit. Nashville is done. Flyers are done as well. Ottawa wins, and the Blues sign Chara in the offseason.

Everyone will be throwing money at both Chara and Redden in the off-season, they're both worth every penny

Detroit sucks. The geezers can't get their walkers to the puck anymore.

*Flush*

I hear the Detroilet flushing again.

How do you let Yzerman down like that on what will most definitely be his last season. So sad.

Let's go Sens, then.

Avs just got swept by the Ducks. Carolina has New Jersey down 3-0. What is this?

Buffalo is winning their series 3-1, the only real battle is between San Jose and Edmonton.

Go Lakers!

Gosh I love hockey. Especially when your home team scores a hat tricky touchdown!

Detroit, Ottawa, and Colorado all gone. New Jersey being the last major team left and they're almost dead (3-1 in the series) Who's left?

Edmonton, Buffalo, Carolina, Anaheim, and San Jose (and a nearly dead New Jersey).

Unreal, Buffalo against Carolina in the East and Anaheim in the West against either San Jose or Edmonton. Of all those teams, only San Jose was being talked about as serious cup contenders before the playoffs started.

Of course, the Sens disappointed as usual, which is just fine with us Leafs fans :-)

Well, it's Edmonton vs. Anaheim, and Carolina vs. Buffalo. NONE of these teams were expected to get this far.

GO EDMONTON GO!!!!!!!!!!!

Edmonton to raise the cup. Edmonton v. Buffalo in the end.

I would put it Edmonton in 6, Carolina/Buffalo (close to call) in 7. Edmonton over Carolina/Buffalo in 6. Buffalo should pull over Carolina though, that's what I am leaning on right now.

I WANT Edmonton to win, but if they go against Buffalo I think it'll be an all uphill battle. I'm relatively close to Edmonton, and I'm getting sick of all the bandwagoners refusing to believe Edmonton can lose. Same shit happened when Calgary was in the Stanely Cup.

If it's Edmonton vs. Buffalo, I hate to say it, but I think Buffalo is the quicker/more skilled team.

Whoah! Looks like Edmonton may be taking this one in 4. They defeated the Mighty Ducks fairly well twice in Anaheim and the next two games are in Edmonton. I think I overestimated the Ducks.

Sabres and Canes are 1-1

It's not a sure bet that Buffalo is in, Oracle. The Canes basically man-handled them in the second game. The score really was not indicative of the way the game went. That series looks like it's going to be a couple of similar teams just going at it and whoever puts in the effort and executes wins. They're pretty equal. They're both fast, have rookie goaltenders playing very well, and aren't overly tough. It wouldn't surprise me at all if this one goes 7.

Edmonton has shut down two very powerful offensive teams so far in Detroit and San Jose (remember, San Jose was one of the hottest teams in the second half of the season and had the highest point getter and goal scorer in the league), so I don't think the speed of Buffalo or Carolina is giong to affect them much. They've gotten to where they are by being fast (they've got as much speed as anyone) and relentless on the puck. I think if they make it it's a matter of timing (do they win in 4 or 5 and have a week off, which might take them off their game) and fatigue (if it goes 6 or 7 again they'll be beat the way they play and with the flu they just had) and whether or not they can continue to play the way they do.

But Anaheim ain't out of it yet. They knocked off a Stanley Cup fav in Calgary and made extremely short work of Colorado, a perennial powerhouse, so they can just as easily win 4 in a row as Edmonton. Burke has done an excellent job with that team.

The Oilers were lucky. They were sluggish in the 3rd, you could tell, likely something to do with the flu they've all had for the last 3 days. But man, Anaheim looked like it was on a mission there and if it wasn't for that gaffe on the face off in front of their net that allowed Pasani to score (where the HELL did this guy come from?) and the fact that their player missed the wide open net with 15 seconds left, it could be a whole different series.

Maybe Edmonton just has fate on their side this year. They've played extremely well and are the hardest working team I've seen in a while, but they've also had some good bounces at the right time to help as well.

Any team that plays like that gets my respect. I hope they win

Out of curiosity Barret: how happy are you that Pronger (@ 31 minutes a game) is doing very, very well over in Edmonton after the continuous failers in St. Louis and calls of him not being a big-game performer?

I think it was because of all of his wrist injuries that have held him back in St. Louis. Now he's healthy, on a team with very good chemistry. I wish our front office wasn't run by the money hungry wal-mart heirs and penny pinching Mark Sauer.

I'm kind of the same way as Barret, I am more about the players than the teams. Though it's difficult to beat the childhood fanism that I developed for Edmonton, Toronto, and Detroit when I was younger. I still get excited when they do well =P

I think it's more than just injuries. St. Louis built up a team in the mid-90's, but since the heirs took over, you can see the lack-of-caring mentality in the team. Kinda like Chicago and completely opposite of teams like Edmonton now. You can't succeed on your own and you can't care if you don't see anyone else caring, which I think was part of it too.

See, there's a similar problem here in Toronto. For years, they had Harold Ballard (from the 70's), who was a cheap bastard. Then there was Steve Stavro, who wasn't much better. They still sold out all the games even when they were perennial basement dwellers in the 80's, so there was no reason to change. Now, they're actually owned by the Teacher's Pension Fund, who's sole purpose it is to make, rather than spend, money for the teacher's retirement. Since there's always 10 people lined up to buy a ticket should a fan go away, all they have to do is stay competitive to keep the merchandise sales up and make extra coin during the playoffs. They never really showed that they cared to spend the extra coin to put the Leafs over the top. Every single penny spent is for the purpose of making another in the short term. There's no passion in winning for them.

When Quinn came in, they FINALLY upped the payroll (hit $60 million in 2004, I believe), but it was too late. This is the main reason why the Leafs haven't won in 40 years.

If only all of the teams had an Illitch-like owner.....

Buffalo and Carolina to game seven, who called it? =)

Well it was a hell of a series. I was disappointed to see Edmonton lose it like that after they bootfucked the Canes at home, but forcing a seventh game was impressive in itself. It really bothered me to see how ineffective Edmonton was while controling the puck in Carolina's zone. They blew so many possible point shots by not having their defencemen play on their off-wings. It seemed every time Pronger had time for a shot he'd have to stop the pass, swing his body around to take the shot, and by that time the shot block was in place. It's called a one-timer, you cunts!

Anyway, good for the Canes. Good for Wesley and Brindamour, and good for Cam Ward.

Heh, Alberta teams have twice in a row made it to game seven in the finals, last time it was Calgary, and both times lost.

I was hoping for Edmonton to tie the game up and take it to overtime.
