Canadian Federal Elections on Monday

It looks like the Liberals are now in the lead stealing the thunder that the NDP had early on (sorry Seeker). I don't really have a horse in that race. I just want someone other than Harper in charge in case Donald Trump wins down here and I need to leave.

It's because Trudeau is like a political celebrity given that he's the son of Canada's FDR (in terms of how long the senior Trudeau served, not actual good policy). His main plus, aside from not being Harper, is that he's the most handsome of Canada's politicians.

That's the main reason behind the big strategic voting push up here, to make sure the Conservatives don't split the vote and Harper wins. It's gonna be interesting, not sure if anyone can stop the Liberal momentum now
Trump has been the greatest thing to happen to US politics since Perot. I love that man, even moreso that he's been able to maintain a relatively healthy lead for this long. I hope to hell he wins :-)

The projections currently have it at a minority government: Liberals 144, Conservative 112, and NDP at 80. Which isn't that bad for NDP since they could easily pick up all the swings in the next inevitable election in 2-3 years time. Especially if Trudeau turns out to be really terrible.
The best move for the Conservatives is to distance themselves from Harper and the former Reform Party people, and elect a former Progressive Conservative as party leader. They could start winning back seats outside of the bumpkin zones.
If they would have had their way with deregulation before the 2008 crash, Canada's economy would be deep in a depression right now.

In addition, the fact that Harper signed on to TPP proves that he is a complete idiot in regards to economics. It doesn't benefit Canada at all, we're a developed nation with a wealth of natural resources. It's going to cost Canadians investment opportunities within our own country, and it's also going to mean billions of dollars of tax payer money being funneled into foreign companies without any economic benefit to Canada except for the lawyers hired to fight the suits.

Liberals are winning a majority. This is the biggest turnaround since Chretien.

NDP dropped down to 44, which is about half the seats they had before. Pretty much the entire expense coming from Quebec. I don't think the Liberals are best for Canada or Canada's values, but they're the status quo party, and people are comfortable voting for them and a Trudeau. At least we get weed.
