I've said it before (I thought here but maybe not) -- I think he looks better with a little meat on his bones. Obviously not when he was at his fattest -- but now he looks pretty anemic.
I have one thing in common with him -- I drink a fair amount of milk (like a liter a day). Probably not good for my weight, but I noticed I stay healthy (don't get colds / flu) when I keep my milk intake. If I quit it -- I tend to get sick every few months.
I tried calcium supplements -- didn't work.
