Season 14 of It's Always Sunny and Season 23 of South Park are both focusing on attacking Hollywood trends this season. Although I find It's Always Sunny is digging a bit deeper into the market trends.
Episode 1: Cartman calls Ice on the Brothlosky family:
Episode 2: tackles Xi Jinping and everyone changing their films to cater to the Chinese ruling class. It also takes a shot at the formulaic 3 act structures and lawyer production of films.
It's Always Sunny:
Episode 1: AirBNB episode. Dennis sets up a situation where he is booked for an Airbnb (run by Mac, his roommate) at the same time as a woman. His goal is to seduce her but doesn't quite know what's going on with her. Mac wants to set up a romantic rom-com scenario. Charlie and Frank put out a flyer: "Gruesome twosome seek exotic Europeans for week-long rental in luxurious one-bedroom apartment. Bed to be shared with owners. Shitter down hall."
To give a bit of context to the scene: Dennis thinks the woman had an affair with a man named Teddy and is now going through trouble with her husband:
What really happened in the scene (far darker):
Episode 2: ALSO tackles how Hollywood films are changing their films, although due to other market forces - people complaining about films and goes into market trends. Like South Park season 2, it focuses a lot on how films are made to conform to PC standards - although this one points out the market forces. Anyway, it's a bit of a gimmick episode (like Seinfeld's Chinese Restaurant and The Parking Garage), where they are reviewing a film that is synonymous with just about every action film of the last ten years.
