Saw it this morning, and it was a lot worse than I feared.
Kite hit the genetic jackpot and reincarnated as Meryem's sister.
I think last week finding Reina never died was already lame, but at least you can argue Colt and Reina are relatively minor characters. But now it turns out the entire fight to bring Kite back, and later to avenge him, turned out to be meaningless because he already reincarnated and it's pretty clear HXH considers anybody reincaranted the same as whoever they were before, so basically Kite never died. Apparently Colt called the Hunters one day too late to note that the girl he thought that was his dead sister insisted her name was Kite, not Reina.
Another minor problem I have with this part is that Novu said Gon was a true hero in this battle, except nobody knows what happened between Pitou and Gon, and Pitou is dead and Gon has been in a coma since the fight ended, so nobody could've known what Gon did. In reality Gon killed the only Royal guard who might have listened to reason and accepted peace. There is probably no way for the Hunters to know they killed the only possibly peace-loving Royal (or rather, someone who isn't inherently bloodthirsty), so it's only a minor problem, but it's certainly very ironic.
Aside from making the last 5 years of development irrelevent, this part was relatively mixed. The good:
The nameless assisant from the Hunter association mourning for Netero was quite touching.
Gon is in a hospital in critical condition, so there's still a chance he might actually die.
Killua finally realizes that Gon is a moron and vows that he will save Gon so he can rearrange his face when Gon recovers.
The reborn Kite is actually kind of cute.
Gratitous fan service resurrection means maybe Ponz and Pitou can spontaneously get resurrected and add some needed estrogen to the story.
Meryem and Komugi's current status is still unknown.
The bad:
Nobody else seems to mourn the loss of a great leader from the Hunter's association
Gon is still alive.
Killua hasn't killed Gon yet.
It's probably just a matter of time before the reborn Kite gets ran over by a tank.
No sign of reborn Ponz or Pitou yet.
Meryem and Komugi's current status is still unknown.
