The most notable manga that finished recent would be Neon Genesis Evangelion. It only took like 15 years or so after Eva concluded, and it ended almost exactly the same way with Giant Rei kililng everyone, though after that we're told a long time after civilization redeveloped itself and we can see crucified Evas are now landmarks. Shinji in the future runs into Asuka in the future in a bus stop, and future Shinji says it feels like he's known her since the beginning of time. Future Asuka says that's a lame pickup line and blows him off and the story ends. I realize there's like literally no redeeming quality in Shinji but would it hurt if he actually get together with Asuka in one of the many endings of the series?
Rurouni kenshin (new) - Has about 10 chapters. More or less same stuff but ends with Kenshin fighting the gambit guy. The puppet guy who controls robots is now a handsome dude when he takes off his mask (if you read the original Kenshin, the author got a lot of flak when that guy turns out to be ugly, and the author is saying the reason he wears a mask is because he's ugly!). I guess the author was just coming out of retirement because he needed to pay rent or something. I'd think he'd do much better if he just have Kenshin slaughtering people like he's supposed to be. Speaking of which, the whole concept of kenshin is really hypocritical. For example one of the girls was selling opium and Kenshin covered it up because he's you know, the Battosai and all that. So what's this all about not abusing power? For that matter what is the point of the fighting in Kenshin at all? He's basically using a stick against guys using swords and he's still usually winning. If he's actually losing you'd think he can just flip his sword around and then it'd be instant game over because if you look at the angle he's hitting people, they'd be totally dead if he was actually using a sword. So why on earth are these guys thinking they can fight a guy who is beating them with a stick and can flip his sword over anytime and kill them? Are they just all insane?
Cross Country Soldier (Hong Kong) - This is about a guy whose name basically forms the title in a pun. He is a martial artist in the pre Song Dynasty era, and he travels across China to fight against enemies of the Empire which includes aliens and mechs. Despite the rather crazy precise, the story is surprisingly good.
Acma:game - There's a scene in Azumanga Daioh where Osaka says if Chiyo gets captured she needs to use her super genius powers to come up with a plan and then die horribly. That's kind of the precise of this story. Some super smart kid has the ability to do devil games and the winner can rule the world or something dumb like that. He tries to use his superior intelligence against a guy with a gun but the guy just pulls out a gun and shoot them, though he was able to activate the devil power before the guy can shoot again. It'd be a way better story if that guy just shoots the main character and kills him and that'd be the end of the whole story. It looks like another Yugioh spinoff.
